I can't find this mentioned anywhere else but it appears that over winter some MEL-HKG QF services are being upgraded to a 747-400 from the usual A330-300. I first noticed this when looking at a booking I had on QF29 for the 1st July and saw that it had a 747 seat map.

Checking EF shows that Fri, Sat and Sun will indeed be 747 services for QF29 from late April to the end of September.

Has there been an announcement from Qantas about this previously?

Cheers,

Nick

interesting, so the capacity is coming off LAX - perhaps this is mandated by the AA agreement. I can't imagine that with the weaker $ there isn't high demand for inbound tourism from north america unless they have price wars still going on.

would be nice to see QF return to DPS with 330s

The A330 replaced by the 747, will be occupied by flying the 3 x weekly additional MEL-SIN services.

When was that announced?

Mid December:

Qantas Increases Flights between Melbourne and Singapore18 December 2015
Qantas will increase its flights between Melbourne and Singapore from seven to 10 per week, as part of continued network adjustments to meet growing demand from Asia.

The three additional services will operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, effective from 29 April 2016, with the flight codes QF37 and QF38. Like Qantas’ existing Melbourne-Singapore services, they will be operated by Airbus A330 aircraft....

Doesn't appear to be on the Qantas Newsroom site. Odd.
