Dear Fellow AFF'ers,

I know you didn't ask for my life story, but here it is anyway. In return for quitting cigarettes (something I have wanted to do anyway, but have decided to leverage some SC's out of it as my mother despises smoking - sounds like a bratty thing to do I know, but when you are a magpie like me with a penchant for shiny cards there is no depth to which you will not sink) she has agreed, albeit in principle, to let me burn some of her points balance on JASA runs to get to the much coveted (by me) Platinum status. Sounds pathetic, I know - you don't need to tell me.

Anyway, I've been planning a SYD(Y)-AKL-MEL-BNE-TSV-BNE-MEL-AKL-SYD(Y) (all the rest are J) run for 440 status credits. I need 680 to get up there. So I have looked at adding in TSV-BNE-DRW-BNE-TSV run in there for the sake of getting up to/beyond the qualifying requirements. Problem is, that I don't really have any desire to stay in Darwin whatsoever. So, to the punchline you have all no doubt been waiting for, is 45 minutes like the one pictured below enough time for a turn-around???

ASA TSV-DRW.jpg Your collective expertise would help me to no end and would make me eternally grateful. Thanks!!!!!!!!!! :)

You have an even shorter connection time (40 mins) in BNE! But in DRW I suspect you will be on the same aircraft. So if travelling with carry on only, it should be OK.

Someone else will confirm but it's probably the same aircraft, in which case the turn-around time isn't an issue at all - you can hop back onto the same aircraft and get the same crew, who will probably say "Leaving so soon, didn't like Darwin?"

I imagine I won't even be taking anything more than my wallet/iPad. So no issues there. Thanks for your help :)

Haha "not really - the weather wasn't really agreeable to the outfit I'm wearing". Thanks eastflyer!

MCT QF domestic to QF domestic seems to be 30mins at DRW.

45 mins is fine. It would take serious talent to miss QF825 given you are arriving on the same aircraft :)

As it happens I did QF824/825 yesterday as part of a status run JASA. My only complaint is that the aircraft involved is an old B767 - far less comfortable than the A330 Qantas claims is used.

Oh well. At least it's J and not Y!

QF824 and 825 did have an A333 on Sundays for a while, but it's been a 767 for a long time on Saturdays, if you get an intl config it's quite nice.

Reminds me of a few years back when I had four flights in one day.

I had the same crew on three of them. As I was getting off the last flight, the CSM said to me "Will we be seeing you again today Mr Ewing?" :)

As for the op's question - under normal circumstances the aircraft that operates QF824 also operates QF825 so you'll be fine. In any case, it's on the one itinerary so they'll look after you if not.

Yes it is the same aircraft and always seems to be a 767 during the week. The wet season is over now so the flights seem to have more pax on them now to, less chance of a empty seat next to you.

Darwin is a very nice place to visit, plenty of history which I have found interesting when I get the chance to sight see. And the weather is a bit better now the humidity has dropped a little..

Cheers..

:)

It will be fine,

YOu should be able to book it all when u leave TSV.

As everyone else has said it should be fine. This reminds me of my own status run that included a connection time of 45 minutes (separate bookings!) in OOL. There were delays ex-SYD and it ended up being six minutes from disembarking to boarding my MEL flight, involving a mad dash through the terminal!

I have had connections as tight as a few minutes between landing and departing, due to delays.

I have actually arrived after my flight was suppose to leave and they have held the flight with for me.

It does get a bit crowded with a lot of camouflage fatigues upstairs but even I have yet to get lost at DRW :p

When I did the TSV-BNE-DRW run last year, on markis10's recommendation I made sure it was a Thursday so I got the international A330 and it was terrific. Arrived in time for the Mindil Beach markets too so it was a great trip, and didn't just turn around ;)

No such luck for me :( that Thursday is B767-300. Wish they'd use the A330!
