Scams like these

The news blurb, in the past few days, every pix they do of the scammers, its always the China chinese men who are the scammers, or parttakers of it.
I myself am one, Asian ***** (insert pooch), that is, and no way would I get involved in this.
From the way all those scam emails or sms are written, its always someone from an NESB, can tell by the grammar, if not from China, its the subcontinent, if not them, its the "da/nyet" from the far North

Re: Forg reply, ah, yes, the Gumtree/fb marketplace and ilk scammy "buyers" if they ever go through the buy without scamming people.
Cash on pickup!
Lucky as yet, you havent had the "Oh, I am working overseas, but I do have my nephew/niece who is living in "Tumut, NSW" who would be happy to buy it for me, on my behalf", lah, lah, lah...
Or maybe they now have your details, and you are now the mug/stoolpigeon.

Re: Martine reply, yep, I do wonder about that as well.
Also, 03 or even the regional areas of South Aus, ...
Maybe they are spoofing as others have said many times, spoofing their calling numbers.
I am sure it can be made harder to do, if the telcos and the Aus fed govt and others made it easier for systems to be put in place, to stop spoof capability.

Also note the logo … what even is that? From decades ago? I thought maybe it was the unrelated UK company, but it ain’t that either.

OK so some Googling says it actually was the official corporate logo until 2022, despite store signage being totally different.

From woolworths.au, note the reply address.View attachment 381433
Wow.... Not sure if it's because it's not on brand, or if it's the US address, or just that you were chosen to join a FREE loyalty program for the special price of $0, but I can't help think that this could have been more effective with just a tiny bit more effort 🤔

Dear ebay_xx_@xx_X
I am reaching out to you as William O'Connor-Brown, Compliance Officer at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
Attached, you will find the Fiscal Assessment Report, which provides details on the status of your tax compliance obligations.
PDF link redacted
you have any questions or need clarification after reviewing the report, please feel free to contact me.
Remember, it is crucial to meet your tax obligations within the specified deadline to avoid possible penalties and surcharges, as provided in Article 1920 of the Tax Code. This is your last opportunity to resolve the matter in an extrajudicial stage and in this way avoid facing a judicial process with the consequences mentioned above.

I wonder where the link to my Australian ebay account was found
Is buying things too much wamdering
Fred

This is probably more geared to scare the seller, rather than a/the buyer.
As the seller is the one who is up for/liable to GST, if they trade commercially, I think more than $75000 a year.

Nothing comes up under BingAI for/of the "article 1920 of the tax code", US/Aus.

Got a scam mail this morning looking like Qantas and NAB. It looks so real to me at first glance, as I happened to have a NAB Qantas Signature card!

Of course, the contents of the email did not match the graphics!

New one today. My phone beeped as I’d been added to some random WhatsApp group with no one I knew in it. The title sort of had a former work connection - purely by coincidence I suspect. Anyway, I left the group, reported it and discovered a new setting that only allows your existing contacts to add you to groups.

Not sure what they hope to extract by doing this but it won’t happen again now.

Those subcontinentals, must be so desperate for money.
