30% off but just for economy.

Singapore Airlines

It's interesting that the T&C states "not available for redemption of upgrades", when this is clearly a discount on redemption on economy seats. Unless except for this offer, one can upgrade from a lower economy seat to an upper economy seat, if there is such thing?

Shame it's so limited.

I am very much waiting for a nice 10% bonus when transferring points from Amex to Singapore Airlines

Is it just my imagnation or do most airlines appear to be struggling this year?

It is a very good discount (only 38,500 Kris Flyer miles SYD-SIN return) but a shame all my flying is booked 6-12 months in advance.

We will see more of this as more A380s take to the skies. Airlines will find it difficult to fill the seats.

The taxes and surcharges on SQ flights are ridiculous though. You almost end up paying a discounted economy airfare! For this reason, I find economy redemptions on SQ a joke... But J does provide good value.

Seems OK to me. Do you want to share an example?

If you are connecting through Singapore (ie. it's not your final destination), then there will be additional airport tax and charges to be incurred.

I had assumed that the offer was network wide and did not click on the OPs link. After viewing, I now see your point... But yes, I was referring to segments further that SIN: I had always found SQ to be one of the worst perpetrators for gouging on surcharges. The taxes and surcharges on a ticket from PER to LON are currently almost $800.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I think QF taxes and surcharges is almost $700, so SIA is over by $100. For a total fare of $2.1k, the additional $100 payable may sometimes be viewed as additional discretionary spend to fly on a particular airline.

I think the fuel levy is a price gouge. Surely they have to be 'reset' each year with a fare review. Are the airlines surprised to learn that their aircraft use fuel?

I think if it was linked to a benchmark fuel rate, if it moves above that then a fuel surcharge makes sense, but when fares are set at a point then fuel should be factored into the redemption rate.

With the 30% discount, and SQ availability at Easter I was happy to spend another Easter in Singers but with the taxes for four of us over four days better value in Oz this time.

Pfffft... as usual with SQ... too little, too late. It's a great discount but my international travel is not done at the drop of a hat. Could have used some of this special but already booked on another airline. This sort of approach by SQ along with the short life of their points is one reason I gave up on Star Alliance and my Westpac SQ Platinum Visa card and concentrated by point earning efforts with Qantas and Oneworld.

I paid $471 for Mel Rome J on TG taxes and charges.

How does that compare?
