With a long transit in BKK (from AY to QF) decided to use the EK lounge. Was told that as I was flying on a QF ticket I could only access the lounge 3 hours before the flight departure. I have not heard of this rule and cannot find any mention in the T&C. Another undocumented "enhancement"?

I was directed to the BA lounge but this, together with the adjacent CX lounge, was closed and gutted (not sure what's happening there). However the QF lounge was open early for the BA passengers.

The BKK Concourse G CX lounge is closed for renovation until April. They appear to be taking over the BA lounge space.
The CX lounge on Concourse D is open.

Yes.
You can't do a passport data scan even if already done OLCI prior to the 3 hrs before you fly.
3 hrs before your Aust/NZ EK flight, then the staff appear at Aust/NZ airport EK desks at terminals.
Don't know about other countries apart from Aust or NZ though.

Trouble is the OP was already airside and would have had PP scanned when checking in for the first of their 2 flights.

I think EK are confusing checkin with lounge access.

Maybe that 3 hr rule is meant to curtail lounge lizards, flying ones at that.
Like the Jul 14 QF FF changes were for our benefit... twits they are, airlines that is.
Simpler and Fairer? Bah!
Cost control more so.

I see no problem with someone utilising a lounge for the duration of their transit. In fact I would expect it.

Yes.... pretty much the purpose of the lounge in the first place.

I think the EK lounge staff are mistaken

Emirates BKK lounge staff.

Last month they were trying to tell me I was better off visiting the Qantas lounge before my flight. I pushed the point regarding my access rights and I wanted to see the lounge as I have never been. Then she wanted my boarding pass and would bring to me later which she did.

There were only 3-4 people in the lounge. No atmosphere in the place. There were 2 staff guarding the buffet and everytime someone went to take something they would quickly run inside and replenish the dish. I hate that.

That seems to be standard operating procedure in EK lounges. I suppose it prevents people from complaining that the buffet was running short of food ......

Not to mention the QP's outsourced staff by Accor who take away every empty plate as soon as a person has finished with it.
I don't dare to mention or say anything, but would be nice to recycle my own plate, ie, go and use the same plate again to save having them to use dish washer to wash and dry.
What time does dinner start in the QPd in Australia? About time, eh, 17.15pm?

If I am going to eat some more I just ask the staff to leave it.

My plate is usually pretty 'ratso' after I've eaten one lot of food so it's best that it's taken away even if I am thinking of having more.
