Hi,
Will be in Shanghai in November and will have 3 - 4 days up my sleeve to get out and explore somewhere in China (after being in SHA for a few days).

I can fly anywhere in China no prob, so places like Lhasa, Kashgar and Urumqui are not out of the question. More of a 4 - 5 star hotel guy, hate walking up mountains and squatting in fields exposed to mother nature. Culture and some R n R.

If you had a few days, where would you go?

Thanks in advance..

What a fantastic opportunity. From my limited China experience, swing by Xi'an and visit the Terra Cotta Warriors. That wouldn't fill in your four days though.

Consider finding a local tour company when on the ground and booking an inclusive four day tour with them.

Don't do a tour in China. Beijing would fill the 4 days easily if you've never been, but I suggest a train from Shanghai to Hangzhou, a day or two and then fly Hangzhou-Xian for the rest.

If it was me, it would be 2 days in Beijing, one to see the Summer Palace, Forbidden City/Tiannamen Square and one to see parts of the Great Wall at somewhere like Simatai (2hrs outside of Beijing). No need to go traipsing up and down for miles and miles, just go for a wander round for a couple of hours.

Next day at Xi'an. Fly in in the morning, fly back out in the evening.

Last day to flop down in exhaustion, and chow down on some superb local food.

Well after dealing with the NPC you could duck across to North Korea and take out Kim Jong-il as well.

Or maybe you could re-phrase the title of the thread instead, though it would spoil a nice idea.

+ 1
But probably stay the night in Xian and fly out the next day.
