Hi all, first post so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong thread for this.... I have 260K points and looking at flying to Europe with partner on honeymoon May 2015. I want to book ADL-SYD-Dubai-Barcelona over and Athens-Dubai-Singapore-ADL back for us if possible. I want to get us a business leg one way for a treat if possible but Qantas tell me you can't book one part of the leg on points (e.g. SYD-Dubai in business) and the rest using cash?? (Cash segments in economy/premium economy)
Confused as to how to get the best value out of the points on this trip. Any help much appreciated!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Welcome, one of the new features of the web engine redesign was supposedly the ability to book a mix of award and cash fares?

In the same class, yes. I didn't think it allowed mixed class booking whether points or revenue....

The new engine does allow the call centre to do this though, Red Roo confirmed this just after it was introduced IIRC

Any reason what you want ADL-SYD-Dubai(DXB)-Barcelona(BCN) over and Athens(ATH)-Dubai(DXB)-Singapore(SIN)-ADL back? Or is it really ADL-xx-BCN and ATH-xx-ADL Or do you want to stop over in those other places? If you do look at http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ogram/oneworld-award-140k-280k-420k-8228.html

For awards you need to be flexible with route & date. Even locking in Barcelona and Athens may be restricting your options. Trains and/or low cost airlines can get you to where you want to go. From ADL you may better looking for an award on Cathay(CX) using your QF points. You may need to phone QF. Business class SYD-DBX tends to be the hardest to get, as its QF main route. From DXB Qantas passengers go to many destinations on Emirates.

The OP has only 230K in total, for booking two people.

Only reason we were looking at DXB-BCN over and ATH-DXB-SIN back is that we would like to start our trip in Spain then we'll be driving across France, Italy, and Germany, then flying into Greece to finish. I merely picked DXB as I know it's one of Qantas/Emirates major routes and it seemed like the most direct way to get there and back. the addition of SIN is to visit a friend there on the way home if we can squeeze that in... might be a bit ambitious though. I'll look into CX and other OW providers and get creative with our routes. Thanks!
