2024 QF Inflight safety video

I really do think QF hit the mark just fine on the first video, it would still pass as a good video now if they just updated the logo.

Unfortunately that was the shortest lived of all the safety videos, barely lasting a year.

Oh wow completely forgot about that one. That is a killer video and straight to the point. Also invokes emotions whilst showcasing Australia.

I think the new video is definitely more marketing than safety. Beautiful cinematography and locations but average safety video.
 
Legally there is no requirement to view the video (many aircraft don't even have screens) - so the video soundtrack or a script read by a FA, together with FAs demonstrating is sufficient. You're welcome to but shouldn't need to read the safety card.

Even with the video playing, crew on Australian airlines will always demonstrate the key components so if you're not watching the screen but still watching them, you've got the information you need.
TBH - as I always do, I read the card re the emergency exits, and to also indicate that I was paying attention to their spiel given the screens were U/S.

I think the original argument was nobody watched the boring safety videos so making it more interesting attracted more eyeballs.

More and more airlines are doing audio only with FA demos (due lack of screens) which IMO is the way to go.

I don't think anyone in QF F lounge is a QF employee. Neither are CC I'm told...
I thought the desk mob were but not the wait/kitchen staff. CC are on about 6 different contracts some of which are directly employed. Happy to be corrected but don’t think JQ employs any cabin crew (I think they are all outsourced to altara?)
Well Darwin is the closest major airport. A bit like how you'd fly to Sydney Airport to visit the Blue Mountains. I certainly flew in to Darwin when I visited Litchfield, Kakadu, Nitmiluk.

Litchfield would be more correct, though Darwin is probably more recognisable.
Batchelor. Strip might be able to take a baby dash, at a push 😉

Qantas has just unveiled a new safety video, and my gosh… it’s long. I mean, I have a flight this evening, and I found myself checking the time throughout the video, to make sure I don’t miss it.
 
I'll reserve judgement on the video until I see it 'in the flesh' - maybe I just wanted a new video after nearly 4 years of the old one.

I do agree with the principal that safety videos should try to be engaging to make it worth watching, although the JAL incident showed that the safety video must be first and foremost about the 'safety' measures.

Well the video is published by QF as an unlisted YouTube video - they must have shared it with media after all the silly critisism of the media version being too long. You'd think aviation media would know that version was never going to be the length of the operational version.

I think it's 1000x better cut than the media version, pacing feels very similar to previous videos. I'm sure they could get it down further closer to 4 minutes for the 737 version (this is the 787 version). But hey, got to have something to watch when taxiing to SYD 34R. Seems the staff segments were cut down considerably but the FFers less so.

I actually quite like the video now. Definitely was time for a change.
 
DrRon was lucky to get the new video on day 1 yesterday, as my SYD-OOL still had the centenary version. Two more flights today and three more on Sunday maybe I will get to see the edited version on one of those.

So most are legit, Lapland and Marrakesh are the hardest to justify (though bookable with points or via a TA)
For the place in Lapland, Kakslauttanen, the nearest airport would be Ivalo (IVL). Not found in the QF booking interface. AY will happily sell you the trip from Australia on a single ticket = for those who want to search for 30 secs to find where to book, their money goes direct to another airline. Possibly not the intent of QF Marketing but that's the reality.

When checking QF website for RVN, the town's name is spelled incorrectly. Are they seriously entering the names manually, or what's this??? You'd think they just look up the names from a reputable globally used list. Next, we'll see QF issuing handwritten carbon copy ticket booklets to pax...

Anyway that would be noth very unusual and probably a violation of the law.

I have always seen crew in J doing them. The other week I was on a flight and the crew member started a little late, but definitely had it.

This version works a lot better. It's much more focused after they've cut a lot of the marketing narrative out. I also notice that they've added little details which were missing in the initial 9-minute version, like Nestor giving a more thorough demo on the seat belts (including the sash belt). They've also included the "please leave all items behind" in the evacuation section but it's spoken so smoothly and quickly that it's easy to miss.
 
To me the proliferation of these fluff videos, masquerading as safety videos, is a sad indictment on the state of an airline. Basically, they've (management) been taken over by the marketing brigade, who know absolutely nothing about aircraft, and consider the focus of engineering and operations on the fact that aircraft can kill you at a whim, to be scary and best hidden. I see it as little more than a corporate manifestation of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Have your fluff video by all means. But AFTER the safety video is complete, and leave that safety video completely undiluted by marketing rubbish. A safety video needs no more than 90 seconds to be done properly, and that's about all the attention you'll ever get from most passengers anyway.

It is quite different to either a centralised gaseous system (380/747) or the chemical systems. And as mentioned somewhere above, the masks don't need to be pulled down. I wonder if giving them a tug would cause any issues, 'cos many people will. I can see some positives over both alternatives, but I also wonder about the proliferation of high pressure oxygen bottles throughout the fuselage. I'm not all that big on them.

BA uses the ei spelling too. They must use the same data provider.

The 6mim version is much tighter I agree. The 737 one will be shorter still without the 787 cabin specific stuff like sash belts, etc. Still long but far better.

oh, I reckon Qantas marketing knew exactly what they were doing and anticipating a relatively uninformed response,. I don’t think anyone has said they do other than a magnificent job. As dear Oscar said, to the effect, "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."

They would not have minded one bit about all the kerfuffle about how long the video is. It would’ve sent masses to the web, searching out to have a look at it, and there is a 10 minute marketing video in all its glory and being posted and talked about all around the world. 🏆

A remaining question for me is how those important safety related bits got into the on-board video when they weren’t in the marketing video which was released as being all about safety. Either the person directing the editing of the marketing first safety video didn’t realise that they were that important or necessary, or they simply got forgotten.

As entertainment, I agree that the on board cut is pretty good, but I still think as a safety briefing it’s pretty cough.
