Does anyone know a way to easily get 16,000 QFF points? I am hoping to go up to Cairns at Christmas to surprise my family, but I can't afford the ticket in cash, but I am only 16,000 QFF points short of a return ticket. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any specials at the moment?

The Woolworths EDR credit card still has a 16K bonus points for first purchase. It's $89 per annum

Yeah I had a quick look and it seems the points won't get transferred until I get and activate the card and then on top of that it will take up to 8 or so weeks. Which will be well after Christmas.

I know it's a long shot and very unlikely to get the points, but I really would love to go up and see the family, its been a while, so if anyone knows of anything that would be great.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Jetstar have a Cairns sale on at the moment. Admittedly not for Christmas but only $109 Melbourne to Cairns.

Are you aware that you have to pay some cash as well as the points? I really think you should look at a $298 cash ticket on Jetstar ($119+$179)... I've found plenty from MEL-CNS a few days before Christmas, and a few days after (around 1 Jan).

A return trip will use 28800 points and $80.50 cash on Jetstar.

28800 points is worth *way* more than $218 ... particularly if you're looking at spending $89 to earn 16000 of them.

All else failing, you may want to try your luck on Flyertalk via 'the coupon connection' if you have something to trade. Gifting QFF points via family transfer is now easy for all QFF members so I'm sure a viable trade is achievable ;)

I got my hopes up there for a second, but you have to have at least 180 days and posts to your Flyertalk account before you can use 'The Coupon Connection'.

I do have a lot of things I can trade to.

I would much rather use points than cash.

Have you considered that Christmas is peak travel time so even if you had the points there may not be any award availability?

What about flying one way on points and one way paid? Or else purchasing 16,000 points from QF as someone else suggested.

Without any status and lack of said points I would think cash ticket is not only the most likely option but also the smartest.
