VA lounge in Cairns

QF is $48-49 more than VA which is interesting
For that $48 dollars, you'll get lounge (tiered or club member), a meal on board, and in the near future free wifi enabled for international flights.

On the flip side: $69 dollars for the Marhaba lounge if you must have a lounge, lets call it $20 dollars for a snack and drink off the Jetstar...opps I mean Virgin menu (same supplier), and roughly circa $20-30 dollars for wifi for the entire flight.

I would expect to get a reasonable meal on board VA, flying business. And I don't really mind using my Amex card or PP to get lounge access. I'm thinking of the Marhaba over Amex, as I've found the service and attitude in Amex lounges to sometimes be less than optimal.

There was never an option of flying QF on this trip, as it's a Mileage Plus award at minimal cost, using the Excursionist Perk (virtually a free trip). So I guess I'll just have to put up with all the inconveniences, and will look forward to enjoying the NZ domestic lounge on arrival at ZQN (I'm flying onward to a domestic destination - TRG).

Still, it's a bit sad that Virgin doesn't see providing lounge access for International flights as important. It will put me off buying International revenue tickets with them.

You're clearly not their target market. They're going for the value choice so some things are stripped with that pricing.

I just don't understand the thinking behind not providing lounge access for business class or high status passengers when flying internationally, especially on their longest route (CNS-HND) using a narrowbody aircraft! In what universe is that acceptable? I will never choose to fly VA internationally and they won't even be a consideration if there is no lounge access provided.
Batik Air, Virgin Australia's direct 'Value Carrier' rival in the region doesn't provide lounge access for most international routes, only on selected international routes (through Contract lounges) out of DPS and CGK (both ID/OD) on the most expensive fares and some selected overseas contract ports (namely PER)

But their pricing sometimes does not reflect that, but with only 8 seats in business I guess they can wear it. Time will tell, I expect.

Who will be the lucky buyer of VA?

Dynamic pricing like all other companies. Most flights are full depending on destination so there will always be people who travel.

I don't really speculate with "who will be" it does nothing 🤔
