I have done MEL-SYD-DFW twice in "J" on A380's and connected on to various USA cities. The A380's sheer size makes you forget your in a tin can for 15+ hours and made the trip easy. I went to JFY (via Syd and AKL) last year on the 787 in "J" and it was tedious. Size really does matter folks...

The prices you quoted are One Way NOT return. My ticket is from Melbourne to New York return for $6,000. If you go to QANTAS.COM and look up DEALS and look up Business return MEL to JFK you will see it is $8,640 at very best!

yep..that's what I said..I get 360 days from the September 2020 cut off to book new flights...BUT at the now to September 2020 price (read $3,000+ Higher)

Perhaps check a few trial bookings on QANTAS. You will find the absolute cheapest Business class return MEL to JFK is just under $9,000 ...and most dates higher. Compare that with QANTAS Sale fares which are $6,000 for the same seats...I know, I have them. So think you will find in most cases...
