Seems a lot easier to reach status tiers with VA. When I used to fly domestically with them it seemed the whole front of the plane was at least gold. I like that it's harder to attain status with QF.

I think it's because Cathay have no lounge at JFK and the first cabin is so small with CX (6 IIRC) so it's not a big load on AA. Tried to get into flagship first dining at LAX but failed lol

I have flights with cathay and BA in my rtw booking. I downloaded both their apps and entered the qantas booking number into both apps and can view all your flights for that particular airline and can change seats etc etc Just make sure you put the Initial of your middle name into the cathay app.

Not sure how familiar with the process you are but you are allowed to choose 3 dates around the time you want to travel, 1st 2nd and 3rd choice. For QF1 all of the dates came back saying yes meaning I could choose any one of them..
