    ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure Card

    (1) Now that Velocity is "back from the dead" I wonder whether ANZ might negotiate with them to restore the flight benefits with the card. No doubt wishful thinking on my part, but I did enjoy a couple of trips from Qld to Perth that I otherwise wouldn't have taken! (2) I have been...

    ANZ Rewards Travel Adventure Card

Another with no fee for overseas purchases is Coles Mastercard. There is a fee but it also gives Flybuys points, which can be converted to Velocity.

Fuel up at Shell or BP?

Faulty logic: you're still losing your 4 cent per litre discount by filling up at BP. The question is whether 8 Flybuys points are worth 4 cents. Some might say not but for me the answer is yes. And almost 4 Velocity points per litre is better than 2, no matter what your valuation of points.

Fuel up at Shell or BP?

But sometimes the docket from Coles will say 8 Flybuys points per litre at Shell, which would put it ahead.

    FlyBuys - Explore Gold offer

Yes I got the points on 7th August so I must have got the card earlier than I had thought. Don't actually need Explore Gold urgently - would just like to know whether I should follow up to make sure it hasn't been forgotten.

    FlyBuys - Explore Gold offer

Hi there. I applied for a Coles Mastercard on their "Promo4" offer (incl Explore Gold with Velocity) and got the credit card on 9th August. I would have expected the Explore Gold by the end of August but my Velocity login still says I have "Red" status. How many more weeks can I expect to...

    40k Velocity bonus posting?

My wife had a lot of difficulty with this. It took about six phone calls to ANZ, who of course made a different excuse each time. The best was that our Velocity number had the incorrect number of digits, and was therefore wrong. When they were asked to put a zero in front to make up the...

    New Zealand

Easiest (and probably cheapest) thing is to use a debit or credit card at an ATM at CHC airport. If using a credit card it makes sense to be in positive balance to minimise the fees.

    Lake Baikal

For me, Siberia. But not necessarily in the height of summer, when the mozzies are voracious!

    Lake Baikal

You'd have to ask wandering_fred whether "for this region" meant Australia or Russia, so I answered both! Lake Baikal is indeed worth a visit. I have heard only good things about Kamchatka but haven't been there myself.

    Lake Baikal

Visa valid for 30 days from date of entry. To apply you go to their website and fill out the form, then print it out, put on the photo, and mail it in with your passport (registered, of course).

    Lake Baikal

Yeah well, where to start?!!! Soviet bureaucracy is still alive an well in this area. You need to allow plenty of time for the paperwork. There are two places in Australia which issue Russian visas: the embassy in Canberra and the consulate in Sydney. The latter is recommended, as they tend...

    Lake Baikal

I have been to the area twice and it is indeed beautiful in good weather! You can indeed go via Harbin (bullet train from Beijing), and the first time we went by bus from there to Vladivostok and across by train to Baikal. The second time we went via Mongolia from Beijing entirely by train to...

Using Platinum travel credit ($300) before paying annual fee

Depends if you think you'll ever want an Amex card in the future, I suspect. Honestly, why do you think it would be OK not to pay the fee you signed up for?

    Coles Mastercard/Velocity Explore Gold

Thanks nicomac. Obviously not the answer I wanted to hear! So I won't bother for now as I won't be flying Virgin for a while. I wonder whether they might repeat the offer next year. Here's hoping!

    Coles Mastercard/Velocity Explore Gold

I am thinking of applying for this card to get Explore Gold for 3 months. The terms say (assuming the card is approved) that if I get a certain number of status credits and fly one eligible sector I will then get Velocity Gold for another 12 months. My question is this: I already have that...

KLIA implements gender segregation for security checks

It's all about who does the (somewhat perfunctory) patdown. I suspect most passengers (and security guards) would think it more proper to have this done by someone of the same sex.

    Funds for overseas

I have traveled with Citibank Debit and 28 Degrees in Singapore Malaysia and Russia and never had issues except with a particular Russian bank that happened to be on Obama's watchlist and was keeping all foreign cards. I did get it back though!
