Where will you go first when the bans are lifted?

I was doing site research in Japan when borders started closing so I cut my work short by several weeks to avoid problems traveling home via SIN. I’ll go back and finish up my tasks when able to so do without quarantines and border closings.

Flying to Honolulu in comfort.....which airline is best?

NH would be great but I suspect you’d get stuck at NRT with a very long layover?

Status run - waste of money [if work pays for J travel]?

First, the golden age of mileage and airline status programs is over. My UA MP Million Miler status reached in 1999 is now worth very little in terms of tangible benefits. Second, in Sweden there is already a great deal of pressure on people to reduce how much they fly and this is likely to...

    Business or First

I should add that although I don’t fly to eat and drink, if I do eat, I expect it to be good and nicely plated/served.

    Business or First

IMHO, it’s all about privacy, lessening the hassle of travel, service ethos and space. SQ F maximizes space, service, and privacy and minimizes the hard labor of the airport. SQ J does that too, effectively, but not to the same levels as F. Food and booze are just adjuncts to the rest and quite...

    2019 Travel Plans

UA J class MEL-LAX and return end of Feb early March. Hertz C class Benz to Canyon de Chelly for a few days riding in the AZ desert with a Navajo guide than back to LA for friends and galleries and shopping and Mexican eats. SQ J class MEL- SIN mid March to give a lecture and relax by the pool...

A tale of two children (in J)

Most kids behave well on long flights. Littlest, not so much. They don’t have the filters yet and the noise and air pressure can be quite painful for them. I expect the best and practice kindness and good ear plugs when my expectation is not met. They’re kids, FFS.

    New Istanbul Airport

The real problems will come when the new IST is actually up and running. The current government is great at pouring billions of borrowed TL into massive infrastructure projects which make it look good but it cheats on construction materials and workmanship and then ignores repair and maintence...

Which is your preferred airline across the Tasman? [of QF, NZ or VA]

Catering in J on Air NZ is very good, not up to their long-haul J menus, but very good, if you can get what you want from the menu. I have noticed a tendency to serve salads, cold appetizers and desserts far too cold, First world troubles. In the end, one does not fly to eat.

Which is your preferred airline across the Tasman? [of QF, NZ or VA]

NZ TT is now on my no fly list. Fully flexible revenue J ticket MEL-AKL (over AUD$2,500). About 2/3 of the 787 J cabin load on inbound were upgrades. Flight attendant gets to me and tells me no choice of appetizer or main course left (I'm in 2A) even though she's taken my order for lunch before...

QFF earn on CX MAD-HKG-KIX J Class

Thank you so much GoldCanyon350 and sbor90. I’ve been with UA Mileage Plus since its inception in 1987(?), almost 1 million miles with UA since then, and held every status tier from bottom to top, and used my points a lot so I knew the QFF agent was talking through his hat. Quite honestly, I...

QFF earn on CX MAD-HKG-KIX J Class

I need to travel MAD-KIX, OW. I will do it in J. CX has a very good OW J price on a good schedule. However the online QF points and status calculator won't calculate MAD-HKG-KIX. Online chat with QFF agent took forever. Agent claimed the two legs with CX in J would earn 8,700 points (about the...

    QF12 business class service fail?

Yes. Absolutely. Over the last 40 years of flying, I’ve witnessed some extraordinarily boorish, abusive, and snotty behavior from premium cabin pax. How cabin crew deal with it day in and day our is beyond me. Even when I’m royally pissed off by some lapse in service or some company snafu, I...

    QF12 business class service fail?

A few years ago I abandoned QF after my fully paid for F seat malfunctioned in a full F cabin two hours out on QF11 and the CSM asked me if I wanted her to have a company nonrev move from his functioning seat and then waltzed over to the senior management type and said loudly “She wants you to...

    ANA J Class service HND-SYD

For sure, for late long haul departures ANA keeps the lights dim even as one boards and they market a sleep friendly approach to service. And there is limited a la carte in the HND ANA Lounge. Even so, we'll be at FL36 before 23:00 and I'm a late eater in the European style, and, more...

    ANA J Class service HND-SYD

Holding a J ticket on ANA, HND to SYD in March. ANA publishes its menus, and I like to eat. Noticed that on the HND-SYD leg which departs at 22:10 or so, there is no dinner service, just an amuse and the usual heavy snacks on demand. Only full meal is breakfast before arrival. Is ANA cutting...
