Ah I see. That's a shame re short credit history. Coz I read that some people have successfully applied for Chase's Sapphire Preferred card etc at the branch with 12 months of US credit history. ( Plus the bankers have financial incentives to get people to sign up for credit cards)

Go open accounts with Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. Yeah, bring all those docs. And open accounts with Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. (Don't forget to deposit money in them too. Enough to avoid the monthly fees) Don't forget to book online appointments with a banker before...

Oh yeah ! Same as me lol......But the credit reporting agencies should be listing all your addresses anyway. (Both past and present, both mailing and residential) I don't think it will be a big problem. You should be ok in the long run.

Nah I don't think there will be issues. I don't think the banks will look for an entry stamp or a visa sticker when you open a checking account at the branch.

Actually they still do. Firstly, type "Fico" under the search function (Where the magnifying glass icon is at the top of the page) after that, click on the first link you see (i think it is called "Check your Fico score summary").

Did you try and open this account from Australia ? If so, you will encounter problems as BofA (And pretty much all the other major banks) require non residents to go into a branch in person if they want to open a bank account or credit card.
