    Japan.It's Bloomin marvellous.

Korea, but not the one you're thinking of (the flag gives it away, and the monstrous still-unfinished pyramid hotel). :) Anyway, just thought I'd share as I had no idea there'd be cherry blossoms in North Korea! Back to your TR (which is making me want to re-visit Japan again properly - not the...

    Japan.It's Bloomin marvellous.

I saw Sakura / cherry blossoms for the first time recently. Wasn't in Japan though. See if you can guess where I was... ;-)

    Hong Kong ideas [8am-4pm]

Re: Hong Kong ideas Lots of great suggestions here already. I'll just add: Chi Lin Nunnery: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chi_Lin_Nunnery 10,000 Buddhas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Thousand_Buddhas_Monastery The outlying islands are definitely worth seeing for a bit of old school HK...

Life Time Gold - The [Realistic] Holy Grail

Forgot about this thread! Hit LTG a few months ago...from 0 to 14,000 SCs in just under 9.5 years. Pretty happy with that. :) Hit SPG LTG this year too, so feeling pretty good about future travels for now. :)

Annual fee waivers for second and subsequent years - the new normal?

Coming up for 5 years now fee-free on a card that is usually $395/year. Had no expectation for it to be free beyond the first year, but I'll keep it as long as it is! :)

Withdrawing euros in London/LHR - banking crisis in Greece

Mal (not sure if he's still a member around here) posted the other day that there are EUR-dispensing ATMs in the London Underground. Rates are reasonable...nothing mind-blowing but not Airport FX bad either. For me, I'm lucky to have an EUR-dispensing ATM right under my office (in HKG), which...

    Lifetime Qantas status credits

77,000 SCs.:shock::shock: They should give you a plane. I'll be LTG in 44 days. Not that I'm counting or anything... :D

Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Cate Blanchett, husband, (very young) baby and entourage on SYD-MEL a few weeks ago. All seated in Y, spread throughout the cabin. Baby was very well behaved!

    What's your Uber experience?

Uber was a lifesaver in Beijing over the weekend. Taxis in China (at least in Shanghai and Beijing) on a Fri/Sat night are a complete nightmare. You're incredibly lucky to flag one, then they just set some arbitrary figure (sometimes about 6x what the fare is worth). Not fun. There are apps, but...

why buy a ticket then upgrade?

Lack of points, availability of award seats, could be one of hundreds of reasons. :) Keep in mind corporate travellers travel on someone else's dime most of the time too. So work pays for J, you use your own points to upgrade to F, for example. Cheers, Febs.

    Double status credits on qantas

There are plenty of different offers out there. I got a Double SC offer a few months ago (and made great use of it too). :D You're right though, 1.5x SC offers are more common. Cheers, Febs.

Act fast and save your Hilton HHonors(TM) points

It definitely does. I've kept my account alive twice in the past by buying $10USD worth of points. In fact this year I was a few weeks late when I remembered, but luckily it still counted (as I was Gold + had a stay coming up). $10USD worth of points and all was good. :) Cheers, Febs.

Am I really out $1600 - Jet Star

Whilst I completely agree with what you've said, there are situations, in certain classes, on JAL, where the scenario you describe can occur (on confirmed / booked tickets). I was shocked. Needless to say, I stayed away from booking those seats...

Could you live in a hotel?

I wouldn't want to "live" in a hotel, but I did spend Mon-Fri in hotels in Melbourne for 7 continuous months. It was fine, but it doesn't really count as "living" I guess as most weekends I went home. Plus I had SPG Plat, Hilton Hhonors Diamond and Hyatt GP Diamond at the time, so wherever I...

    Qantas Event tonight...?

..and it's a very, very cool space. You can pretty much see every seat, every product, every lounge (they have a small corner set up to look like each lounge) in one building. It's also where the wine panel do their tastings (or was before the new campus was built anyway - not sure about now)...

Which three Scotch Whiskies for your drinks cabinet

I like my whisky just a bit, so picking only 3 is a bit difficult, but a fun challenge nonetheless. :) Seeing as you said Scotch (as opposed to Irish, Australian, Japanese, American etc...) I guess I'd go with the following if we're talking about easy to find, standard offerings: - Lagavulin...

Hi and Red Roo please help me!!!!

Amazing response from an awesome community. Good on you Troy (and everyone else, especially QF WP and the anonymous UA donor) for assisting! Can't even begin to imagine what a trip like this must be like, apart from incredibly hard. Troy - the donation link has been shared on a large Facebook...

    The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office" I think there are a few liberties being taken with the definition of "office" ;-) This is (genuinely) my office view :) Cheers, Febs.
