What would your points strategy be if........

It will be interesting to see how you go. I was in a similar situation about 10 years ago when I retired. I planned to do some business class holidays. However, Qantas allocated very few FF seats to anything but economy seats. Perhaps that's changed now. I'll be interested to see how you go.

Feeling ripped off by Virgin advertising - we now serve food and beverage

On a short flight - eg 1 hour, and budget airline, I assume the food is a non event, and I plan to go without it. However, if I see advertisements that influence me to use the airline, and the airline service doesn't meet the advertisement induced expectations, then I feel cheated. Overall, on a...

    Infants in premium cabins

Yes, it's hard to find a fire hose on a plane.

    Infants in premium cabins

Normally, the only reason I fly first class is on business, because I'm flying to Australia to USA or Europe, getting of the plane, and going straight to work, then flying out the next day or two. I need to be well rested. I've seen kids in first class, but so far, it hasn't been a problem. If I...

Priority Checked Baggage - What a joke !

I've given up any expectations from priority luggage. It seems to come of at random. My first First Class flight was around 40 years ago, and my bags came off first. It rarely happens now.

    Travelling with children

I suspect you didn't read all the post - the point was to protect them from naughty men, not hate them. I'm just pointing out how stupid it's becoming try to protect them from everything.

    Travelling with children

Many children are abused by their fathers. Therefore, kids shouldn't sit next to any male, including their fathers. Actually, I saw on TV yesterday, that one young boy abused another young boy. Therefore perhaps children shouldn't sit next to anyone. Perhaps they could go in little cages for...

    Travelling with children

So, you don't think a 7yo will kick the seat in front? Wouldn't spill food or drink. Ever seen a 7yo and 10yo have a fight or shouting match in the back seat of a car? I've had one vomit in a plane. 14 hours is a long time unsupervised.

    Is Business Class worth it??

Not necessarily a "no brainer". It's an individual choice. For such a short flight, I prefer to save my points, and use them to upgrade on long haul, or purchase premium economy or business. However, if it's a night flight and sleep is anticipated, then I can relate to it.

    Is Business Class worth it??

I agree. For such a short flight - 5 hours -, it's not worth upgrading. I also usually only upgrade on 10 hour plus flights also. Sydney to Perth upgrade would cost around $170 per hour. Flying economy instead of business may be the easiest $900 you'll ever make.

Should I go for Platinum again with Qantas?

True - I could check to see if I have the same as my wife. Even so, I've never found business class seats available on long haul, unless it's about a year in advance.

Should I go for Platinum again with Qantas?

I was platinum for years, and am now lifetime gold. I've never seen evidence of this. Can anyone enlighten me? Normally I just go to the Qantas website, log in, and get the same list of seat availability as anyone else, with almost no sign of a business class award seat in sight on the main routes.

Should I go for Platinum again with Qantas?

Hopefully the only reason you travel for work is that there's no other way to do the job!!

Should I go for Platinum again with Qantas?

I spent years at QF platinum when doing a lot of international business travel. When I retired, I dropped to lifetime gold. I can no longer get into the first class lounge, but have access to the business lounges, which is plenty good enough for me. I don't need matching marble floors. I used to...

    The Danger of Hoarding Points

I guess other airlines put more priority than Qantas on looking after their FF. I've tried to book premium economy on Qantas with points, but no seats available - only a couple of weeks ahead of the flight. Imagine my surprise when I boarded to find the cabin close to empty.

    The Danger of Hoarding Points

How many people would book a holiday 13 months in advance? I'm typically about 2 months for a major overseas holiday.

    The Danger of Hoarding Points

I hope you enjoy economy - that's about all you'll find for long haul, unless Qantas has recently changed policy.

    The Danger of Hoarding Points

Before I retired, I collected about 1.2 million FF points with Qantas. I planned to have overseas holidays, and use them for business class to Europe and USA. I found it impossible to find business class seats available for FF points. I managed to use some in premium economy. In the end I just...
