SYD/YVR/SYD on Air Canada - benchmark for Qantas to YVR in January

I really do hope QF can get a permanent SYD-YVR service happening. It would certainly make my annual mountain biking trips to BC easier! Nothing worse than dealing with the domestic US carriers trying to slug extravagant baggage fees for two bikes.

A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Please excuse me if tis is in the wrong thread, but are there any non-Amex cards in Australia that can earn to AA? Or earn to SPG then to AA? Ta

    QF flight numbers YVR-BNE

AFAIK you need to have a QF flight to earn status credits. You can walk easily from T6 to TBIT, took me about 5 mins earlier in the year.

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

On the approach to the Passo Dello Stelvio the terrain became terribly rugged. It certainly appeared to be one of the more inhospitable places that I'd been. The view to the summit from the East side. I spotted these daredevils installing mesh on ropes. Pretty hairy job but necessary in the...

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

Swiss Day Trip Being a keen driver and a fan of Switzerland we decided to combine the two into a Swiss Driving Day Trip. Now in hindsight perhaps this was too big of a day. The basic plan was to drive from Nesso to Bellagio and catch the ferry across to Varenna. From there we would make our way...

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

Italian Grand Prix One of the main reasons for doing this trip when and where we did was to take in the Italian GP. We're both F1 nutters and I race in lower formulae whenever I can. It was an amazing experience, even if you're not interested in car racing. The sheer enthusiasm of the crowd...

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

Ah Varenna will play a minor part in the next instalment. A lovely place! Glad you're still enjoying your travels! You'll enjoy this TR then for sure, especially the Swiss sections :). I agree about Rome, we only spent the day there and that was well and truly enough! Hmmm not always. They...

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

Re: Week 1: Nesso, Italy Here is a small collection of photos from around Nesso. We walked along the lakefront, then back up the hill and through the upper areas and back to the villa. Here's the 'road' to our villa. No joking, its a gazette road. Goat track more like. We had to carry out bags...

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

Re: Week 1: Nesso, Italy The ferry heading from Bellagio to Como late in the afternoon. Actually probably about 8 pm from memory. And some rowers practicing. Being yelled at very loudly infact! Forza! Avant! etc. Our first day dawned with more beautiful views out the window. What an amazing...

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

Week 1: Nesso, Italy Now week one is a little misleading. It was actually 10 days... Nesso is a tiny village on the Western side of the Lario triangle on the shores of Lago di Como. The weather was hot, about 30 degrees and humid until a massive storm one evening and then all of a sudden it...

European Trip: Attempting to live in style, but also like the locals.

Hey All, Its coming up to one year since myself and Miss giantkingsquid went on an seven week European sojourn. We planned the trip so that we would base ourselves for about a week in one spot, generally rural, and explore the area from there. We are keen mountain bikers so dragged our bikes...

    Is it this simple?

It looks like some classes earn 100 % and some earn 25 % here. The fares I looked at earlier must've been in the 100 % category luckily. Edit: Yes the ones I was looking at as an example of my flying were V bucket so 100 %...

    Is it this simple?

Hello, I am looking at getting rid of QFF and am investigating MPC/Asia Miles as an alternative. Leaving QFF because I fly almost exclusively discount economy and with the new system discount economy isn't treated particular well! My flying is from BNE to either Europe or Canada or JFK...

QF to consolodate call centres to Hobart

I must say that calling Qantas is always a painless and cheery exercise in my experience. Keep up the good work guys! p.s. Don't make me regret the above...

Bose QC20 in-ear noise cancelling headphones.

For those worried about sound quality and quantity have a look at the Shure SE range. I've got a pair of SE425s and they are gobsmackingly good. Even in a Dash 8! No batteries either.

    Ask The Pilot

Nomex is the most fire and heat resistant of 'common' fabrics. I know my racing suit can protect the user for at least 32 seconds from direct flame. Enough to alight from a burning racing car anyway.

Is 2 hours enough transit time at LAX?

I'm in the same dilemma as AS cancelled the flight we were meant to go on from LAX-YVR. So Qantas put us on a flight that made for an 8.5 hour layover and a very late arrival into YVR and a further two hours drive after that which is unacceptable. So we're booked to do a very painful (or...
