Qantas allow using only points for a QP membership but it is in the hundreds of thousands of points which would be in-proportionate to the value of a QP membership, especially since you cant use OW lounges abroad.

Even with the sales the SC per dollar is around 3-4 if you're lucky so i guess a Gold run would be at least $2K, so i guess you wouldn't even get close.

Is it possible to do a status run for SG for cheaper than the $485 per year for QP membership? If so why would anyone buy QP membership rather than go for status?

I have travelled many times with my Dad who is WP and being one of five kids we have always been let into OW lounges but warned that when we turned 18 they wont allow us to do so anymore.

I think a non-disclosed value for attaining CL would keep FFs in Qantas as the membership spans two years and is a whole new tier. Lifetime WP would also be a nice step to work towards but as said before it would discourage purchasing tickets as opposed to award flights.

I qualified for PS on the 30th of April 2013 and my anniversary is on the 30th of September, does this mean that i will retain PS until the 30th of April 2014? If so I assume this does not mean you have this extra time to acquire more SC.

It is a shame that you can qualify for a higher tier status that took you all year to acquire only to fall all the way back overnight.

If you were SG, WP or WP1 on the day before your FF anniversary and you were flying the day after, would you be denied access to the QP if you fallback on Bronze or Lifetime Silver? Is the attendant going to deny you access to the QP even though you had the status to enter just the day before...
