The aisle seat - is it really that good?

Aisle for mine, and always an aisle so I can cross my right leg over my left.

    Trip Advisor Credibility??

People I've met overseas who have come to Australia often mention how 'amazing' they think Aussie hotels are. Whereas us Aussies that have stayed in several probably are much more harsh in rating them. So perhaps an Aussie hotel that caters more to say foreign tourists may well have inflated...

    Trip Advisor Credibility??

Its all a little silly because certain posters will be read more than other posters depending on where they've been, what they've done and the hotel they've stayed in. For example, someone who is reviewing a popular hotel in New York will get more views than someone who reviewed a hotel in some...

CBA Diamond Awards MCard vs Amex

No not confused, at least not anymore (was when i posted the OP :)) Yes I am talking about reward points not QF conversion. I only recently found out that my AMEX diamond card gives alot more points than my Mastercard even though they are the same a/c.

CBA Diamond Awards MCard vs Amex

With the 3 points for $1 spent on the Diamond AMEX I think it actually works better than debit even if there is an AMEX charge of say 1%. Each point (if doing a cash redemption of the points) is worth 0.5c. So 3 points is worth on a $1 spent is worth 1.5c, or 1.5%. Is my reasoning right here?

CBA Diamond Awards MCard vs Amex

Think the cap is 1 million a year which is fine for me, dont get anywhere near enough expenditure to earn those kind of points. Agree re Qantas conversion which is why I've never done it. I usually just convert the points to cash. Thanks for all the responses!

CBA Diamond Awards MCard vs Amex

Cheers SQ, I'll keep an eye out for those transaction fees. Wish I could wind back my expenditures since then :)

CBA Diamond Awards MCard vs Amex

Feeling a little silly about asking this. Last year CBA changed my credit card from a Visa to a Mastercard when the Visa expired and a new card was issued. When they did so, I asked them to send me a 'second' card for travel purposes, just in case I lost one. They did send me one but it was an...

Price discrepancy between Q and E on same flights

I have another question if you don't mind. With the above examples, some flights have the Exx_ code and others the Q code. If I were to book the flight with Qantas through the Qantas site, will I get FF points for all the flights or just the Q code flights. If not, there is NOW (yes the...

Price discrepancy between Q and E on same flights

Hi all Just an update. The Qantas booking site is jumping all over the place at the moment. Literally 30 mins after I posted the original post, the pricing changed so that the Qantas price was actually CHEAPER than the Emirates. Now at $2,470 for exact same flights. BUT, another date option...

Price discrepancy between Q and E on same flights

I am noting a significant discrepancy in some flights between Qantas booking site and Emirates booking site, even though though the same flights. But the Emirates flights are Exx_ flights so I assume cannot get QFF points if booking via Emirates site. Have attached two images as example. In...

    2011 trip photos

Cheers kelvedon Not a photographer so just a Canon 60D with a kit lens (18-55mm I think), just impossible to not get a few good shots at least when you take over three thousand :) The trip was for around 2 months. Going for 2 months again this year and thinking of getting an ultrawide angle...

    Ultimate Taste Experience - Paris

Its entertaining but was not worth it I thought when I went way back in 2003. Not sure what it costs these days, and the AUD is much stronger now but I Reckon an aimless stroll around the Montmartre district is much more fun (and free) Mrs Ikara would probably also enjoy a walk along Rue...

Venice & Amalfi coast - travel tips?

I've never travelled by car in Italy (or on any travels actually unless with others that demand a car)...always by train (and bus in Sicily). Maybe a car would be nice for a change say in Tuscany but I agree with you that it is definitely not necessary - and in fact completely unnecessary (not...

Booking hotels - book early or late

If booking early, make sure you also check the rate available if you book direct through the hotel (try the hotels website). If you have good travel insurance, you can book early direct through hotels websites and often will be entitled to significant discounts (at least in Europe I've found...

    Where to Stay in Paris

Hotel des Grandes Hommes was a fantastic hotel for me (stayed 7 nights). Overlooking the Pantheon from the side and only a minute walk from Rue Moufettard (a great little street to walk along). Paid around $150 pn for a single room with an early booking discount (so I assume a double will be in...
