28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

Ok. Got both primary and supplementary cards. The card numbers is the same as the old Wizard (I had the Wizard chip) card, except different expiration date. Is this what other people are getting as well?

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

I called up to get the new chip cards. Told that the card is now called 28 Degrees (anyone know where is name/brand came from?) Changes also published on the net. Looks like still NO annual fee and NO Int'l Transaction fee! The picture shows that the card will also have Pay Pass. Told to...

Pay in Local Currency or Home Currency?

Hi Turtlemichael Sorry to hear abt your experience. I guess there are 2 points that I can offer regarding that: 1. The AUD has been rising steadily over the past 2 weeks, both against the USD and JPY. Last I checked, 1AUD= 93.5USC and 80JPY. To complicate matters more, most...

Pay in Local Currency or Home Currency?

Depending on the machine, something to the effect of "Confirm Currency Conversion?" will pop up on the merchant's machine. The trick is to say "NO" or press "Cancel". Pressing Enter (which was what most cashiers do) usually equates to agreeing to pay in home (AUD) currency. I had to show the...

Pay in Local Currency or Home Currency?

Hi WT: As a rule, I almost ALWAYS elect to pay in the local currency (HKD in this case). When you pay directly in AUD, the exchange rate is usually around 4.5% worse than the interbank rate. On top of this, most Australian Banks that issued your card will again charge you a 2-3% foreign...

japan duty free - cheaper than BNE??

Depends on what sort of alcohol. Beer is not expensive. You can even buy them via vending machines and most convenience stores now (ie 7-11, etc). Again, depending on the brand, you can probably get a 350ml can for about 3AUD. For some reason, beer are mostly sold in cans than in glass...

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

Sorry, a quick correction. Japanese 7-11 is the one no longer accepting MasterCard for ATM withdrawal. I cannot post the link as I have only a few posts here. But you should be able to search for that info (pdf) on the jnto.org.au site if you want confirmation.

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

The last time I used the Wizard card in Japan was June this year. As Flashware said, no extra fee with Citibank. There is a Citibank ATM on the arrival level at Terminal 2 at Narita Airport. My impression is that Japan Postal Bank's ATM (Green colored sign and lots of them) do not charge a fee...

    Currency conversion question

I agree with Flashware. One needs to check the actual currency being charged, whether on line or in person. I have been paranoid to a stage where I automatically ask the cashier to charge me in the local currency. Sometimes, I get a puzzled expression (this is usually because that store would...

    Currency conversion question

Hi snufl and others: I am fairly new in the community, but thought that I would put in a few suggestions: THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENED TO MYSELF about 6 wks ago. I was using a Wizard card as well, though booked with another international hotel chain. IT IS WORTHWHILE...

SCs on JAL + KGI SC run

Hi! I cannot confirm the SC you would earn. But I can confirm the so-called business class airfare on JAL domestic. From memory, ALL JAL domestic business class cost an extra 1,000yen or roughly AUD15 per leg/sector. The main difference again from memory: 1. Larger seats 2...

Going to Japan next week - cash out questions

Hi FFGrey: Yep, I am also one of the lucky ones whose got a Clear Advantage MC:p. Have used it frequently at Narita Airport. Try the Citibank ATM. It's on ground level (after you leave customs). From memory, it's near the escalator as well. BTW, this is for Terminal 2. The banks...
