China To Connect Its High-Speed Rail To Europe

I know the topic is talking about Europe as an example but the Shinkansen in Japan runs successfully over distances far greater than just a trip between SYD and CBR. Whether or it works somewhere else doesn't really prove that it'll work here though. What I did like about using the high speed...

Options for phoning home from Japan

When I travelled to Japan (on a budget) the cheapest way I could figure out was to use skype. Using some skype credit I'd call home normally to tell them to hop onto skype so we can start a skype to skype session (as opposed to skype to aus landline) which has no cost other than an internet...

How to get a netbook across the country

The existing packaging they tend to come in make them quite secure. On a similar note I received a pvr/media player via registered aus post (with a desktop hard drive within it) without issue. As long as it's well packed it 'should' be fine. This doesn't really allow for seriously bad luck, so...

    Shopping in the us

Laptops vary in core hardware country to country? This is curious to me At any rate ASUS branded laptops have an international warranty, it's just a matter of finding the closest service centre near your current location.

CBA Travel card or Wizard ?

Used an ANZ travel card in Japan a year ago, overall you pay more than the wizard card. If I'd have known about the wizard card before the trip, it would have been the choice for me.

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

I received mine just last week for the period 10th Dec 2009 - 9th Jan 2010. Though I certainly remember the time I misplaced a credit card statement once and had to cop the late fee.. these days everything just gets organized into a todo list.

    US dollar account

If this is just for a holiday then perhaps the Wizard Clear Advantage Mastercard would be a suitable solution. Plus your money wouldn't be locked into the US dollar. There's a big thread on the wizard clear mastercard in these forums somewhere around here...

    ePassport readers

As there is no such thing as perfect security I'd suppose anything is possible.. I've no idea about the mechanics of an epassport. But let us consider an example where stealing data from an epassport is fruitless by design due to our paranoia (or concern for an attack as described by the OP)...

    Qantas carry-on rules changed?

Yeah flying back from NRT to SYD had no issues with a similiar carry on bag + a laptop. I queried if it was ok to have a carry on bag + laptop (after you read '1 carry on only') and they didn't mind at all.

    Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones

Before you go and shell out for the rather expensive yet effective bose noise cancelling headphones be sure to try them on in store. Otherwise you may end up with a pair of very expensive high quality headphones that don't see much use because of how they fit on your head! As for me I'm using...

The best crosswind landing i've seen yet

From another forum I happen to frequent.. Anywho, the video says 143 kilometre wind speed. That's a lot more than 23 knots. I know of vidoes where boeing tests what the landing gear can take landing sideways, it's nice to know that they test them (and land them) above what they're rated to...

    Second card advice

I would consider a $5000 per year spend quite low. I believe you're about right with your estimated spend required to make the westpac card work. You should be looking at fee free or (threaten to cancel then fee free) points credit cards. The woolworths everyday money credit card can be fee...

    Top 20 Annoying things...

Is it just me or are many of these so called annoying things a bit of a reach? The only annoyance I'd rate as worth a second thought would be flight delays, lost baggage and perhap too many people in the customs line at once leaving you barely enough time to catch your connecting flight.

28° Mastercard Cash Advances while overseas [No more free cash advances from 1/1/14]

This month I did an ebay transaction and decided to use the Wizard card to check the difference. After getting the bill back and crunching the numbers I believe the Wizard card saved me about 0.15 AUD. I deleted my little excel sheet I used to work it out because the difference was so little...

Disgusting! Virgin Mobile start charging fees

One thing that people also forget is that credit card payments are instant. They'll get the money in their bank earning interest straight away, unlike say paying by cheque - the benefits aren't just one way.
