Thanks for all the advice! Still undecided... May end up just paying for the early morning taxi and enjoy the QF J lounge (currently staying with family but some issues there.. you know how the saying goes!)
Very interesting doing a "true" one way trip! and a little scary! Makes it much better...
G'day all!
I did do a search... and was rather surprised when this term did not come up.. I am flying to the US (one way! Relocation for a new job!) on QF11 at 1305 on the 24th of May.
Not really keen to battle traffic from the Northern beaches where I am staying with family to make a ~9am...
There are quite a few days MEL-LAX is a380...
From memory (AND CHECK ME ON THIS!) Sunday is one...
If you are there for a working week it works well as QF93 is a380 (landing LAX 7.30ish on sunday) andQF94 out of LAX on friday night is an a380 (being the one about to do 93)
Never flown J on the 747 but have once on the A380 and it was first class :)
The Skybed MkII is amazing, and the lounge at the front is fun!
The A380 is just a nicer aircraft, smoother, quieter, better IFE
I've never been asked to weigh (almost exclusively use J check in/bag drops now, love being OW-S)
I travel most of the time with a rolly + a laptop sleeve that goes over the handle (I for one love/need the personal item rule as my laptop is a brick!)
I also usually have a small camera bag slung...
Times are departures... usually in lounge at least 1hr prior

Done wot hotel 4 times and have been very happy three times and "ok" once...
Once it was the Crowne plaza in Canberra for $140 a night for a quite decent room... enjoyed that stay!
Another data point for y'all :)
Two OW Sapphires on the PNR (QF SG, AA Plt), best row on a 734 is one ahead of the exit... usually get a much better seat selection on OLCI
I will get around to writing up a trip report from a recent trip to DC, flights were all good, with another great experience in Y on the QF a380, crews on that plane are top shelf!
However after a very smooth exit from the aircraft and lightning speed through the e-gate (awesome!) I was...
Still not certain but original Y seat released and able to select 25K (window seat, Wx in LA looking good!) So quietly confident and very excited about first skybed experience!
The Australian Public Service Code of Conduct states that FF point can be accrued by APS employees but can only be used for official purposes.
Many of my colleagues are SG or WP.. and the agency likes it as it saves money on QP fees.
Very interesting... manage my trip now shows an extra leg as "Wait-listed U class (J)" Still showing the Y leg as "Upgrade requested" Vaaaary interesting!
