What are your checkpoints for getting ready for a trip.

I make an extensive checklist comprising: casual clothes, clothes for plane, clothes for activity (usually cycling or snowboarding), as well as food for the plane (here is what I normally take). I check off stuff like making sure I have digital copies of passport, all plane/transfer/accom...

What are your checkpoints for getting ready for a trip.

Depends how organised you are. I usually have everything laid out 3-7 days beforehand (for a cycling EU trip)

Appropriate Behaviour in the QF Lounges

I reckon forum Ed should have a three strikes and YOU'RE out policy (same as the lounge). YOUR instead of YOU'RE is some sort of inexcusable grade prep error. I let my Virgin lounge membership lapse in July (as we live near Byron so mainly fly on JQ out of Ballina and there are no DJ flights...

    Budget for European holiday

These are all awesome tips! Except one thing: French wine! It's nowhere near as good as Aus wine, on a like for like basis. E.g. you can get a reasonable Aussie red for $7 but try getting a good French wine at a low level. Cr#pshoot. Good tips re: softdrink and going with the menu du jour is a...

    Budget for European holiday

Can't agree with any comments on credit cards. Besides small little cafes etc, almost all places (restaurants, bars, shops) all take overseas credit cards - France, Italy, Spain (Catalonia, Pyrenees). I've used Earth Plat, Virgin HF, 28Deg MC, Debit cards (MC, Visa). No issues ever. About the...

    Budget for European holiday

Check this out, minus the parts you have booked. Trip budget planner. Notwithstanding that I don't know your budget - France: woodfired pizza AUD$10, salad AUD$10 max, beer is super cheap. We buy spirits/beer in supermarkets to save. Higher end places can be tres expensive - I think French...

    Failed Virgin Experiences...

Couldn't resist, sorry ;p Not everything is epic, you coughheads. #epicburn (and yes, that is meant to be ironic!)

Oh, I still check in with staff. Perhaps that is why.

    Failed Virgin Experiences...

Not saying they're not complex. So basically, DJ can leverage off VA's investment in Amadeus? I am not attempting to trivialise the systems, nor the migration - I work heavily in the area and have for many years, so appreciate the work and cost involved. In any case, from a UX perspective...

    Failed Virgin Experiences...

Interesting! Re: OOL JQ lounge: yep aware of that. That JQ lounge at OOL is a pigsty anyway, seriously. It's horrible. Rubbish everywhere, dirty carpet, benches, worn seating, it's horrible. Re: Qantas Club members can't domestically check in priority: Are you sure? I have, several times, less...

    Failed Virgin Experiences...

This is another telling insight. With the marginal cost of IT these days (notwithstanding expensive ERP/CRM proprietary systems) at least compared to capex/opex for the actual metal, and other miscellany, there is no excuse not to have the most mind bogglingly awesome IT systems. Why don't I...

    Failed Virgin Experiences...

If there's a major insight to be gleaned from this by any lurking Virgin staff, it's this. Evangelists need to be treated like gold. They're the ones that spout the good (and bad) experiences to people. You also made a great point about staff ought not make people feel like they're doing the pax...

    Failed Virgin Experiences...

Good thread. I am a Lounge member (paid) on both QF and DJ as I don't fly enough (beyond 10 or domestic MEL-OOL and int'l MEL into the EU during TDF time, and a random USA/CA trip, on AC or Hawaiian/JQ usually) to get gold/plat, but, FWIW, I sent a rather lengthy email to Virgin head of...

    Value of QFF points?

Silly question, but due to QF website's horrible UX/UI I cannot find the points+pay calculater. Does someone have the URL handy? [I am looking for a MEL-NCE or MEL-CDG routing for 2012, very aware I will likely need to book OW, I have 340K points]

Carry on Baggage - allowances abused to save!

There's an easy fix. Enforcement. People's bodyweight should count. It's ludicrous that body weight isn't. Airlines have woken up to the fact there is money in freight. They're no longer making money on flying people, it's flying our luggage.

Cheapest way to get to Buneos Aires EZE?

We flew a connecting Madrid London in 2004 and the AA connect was done by "Air Comet Plus". Was the most frightening flight I've ever been on. Nearly overshot the landing at Gatwick, staff looked like leather gloved staff from a WWII commercial carrier. #AerolineasFail

Cheapest way to get to Buneos Aires EZE?

Whaaaaaaa? Anyway, what about via South Africa? And what is this scAerolineas business (I am not here enough to be down with the in jokes sorry)

    Priority Pass, just joined.

Thanks heaps for this. I've spent days and days working out whether to change from QFF to SIA Krisflyer (changing credit cards in the process) and how to get lounge access when I travel ex Mel to France during Tour de France time (via HKK, Changi, DXB, CDG, TLS, GVA etc) and this has made it...

Earth Platinum 20000 bonus and $1=3points

GM I reckon if you put some reasonable business through your Earth Plat and then threaten to cancel they'll leave the A/F at 125 or even waive it. I plan on doing the same thing....so I can run 20k points on, plus any spend (I am going to Japan for NYE so will probably put 15,000 points on there...

Which Star Alliance FF program is the best?

Branson didn't get rich following the crowd. Funky focus and Flipping the Norm. Hence V in bed with Emirates and whomever else. I don't see them joining *A, once V flies ex E/coast Au into W/Coast USA, you'll have Emirates into Europe, the Gulf and AU to NZ, and VBlue domestic and V Aus into...
