Don't forget that Star kept the RTW prices stable or had very minimal rises for quite a long time after Ansett vanished. Is it just me or does anyone else have problems getting your bookings on qantas.com to accept your AA number? I end up having to call in to add it every time I make a booking as qf.com keeps telling me the name in the booking doesn't match the name of the membership.

You may get more options/suggestions if you can provide what sort of segments you are looking at doing on the two trips. As others have mentioned, airpasses aren't so good a deal anymore these days.
