Can you cancel the outbound flight only of a return reward booking?

Hi all,

My wife and I have return Australia to Japan Qantas reward flights booked. Due to a change in circumstances my wife may need to travel separately from the US to Japan and meet me there. Without risking the remaining flights would it be possible to:

1. Split my wife and I into two separate bookings; and
2. Cancel my wife's Australia to Japan outbound flight only (or change it to depart from the US to Japan), while keeping the return flight to Australia?

In theory yes, in practice most of the time, unless you talk to an incompetent agent that will destroy your itinerary. Make sure you get a new etickets within a few hours, espcially if your flights includes non qantas metal.

Thanks, yes I would be online refreshing my bookings to see the changes being made were as expected. The last thing I want to do is lose the return flights home.

Ah that should make things a bit easier if they massively bungle it up (and also you won't get slugged with a huge reticketing fee for JL as their award taxes have gone up since apr 1)
