Qantas A380 refurbishment news and updates.

It's been in Abu Dhabi since Nov 23.

I’m very tired after my SR, but counting QF 380’s that’s 1 @ AUH, flying in to SYD last Sat., there was 1 in the hangar, that’s 2, QF 2, 12, 128, & ? round where EK412 usually is, that’s 6, QF 93 from MEL, that’s 7, QF1 to LHR, that’s 8, QF11 & QF94 from LAX, that’s 10? Correct me if I’m wrong🤔

I understand Qantas definitely didn't need 50 787s but given how dirty cheap those 787s were even back in those time I always fail to understand how they ended up only having 14 789 and still deploying old tired 330s on an intercontinental route(BNE-LAX) while having inconsistent service offering (HND mixed of 330 & 789 with 330 lacking W class) and fleet being a decade behind its competitors (major players flying into Australia from major cities mostly deploy 350/787)

I was being rhetoric BTW, we all know the answer is the massive bonus in Alan's pocket.
 
The flipside being if Qantas had gone into 2020 with a few more billion in debt, then they might have ended up like Virgin Aus.

Even though the 787s were 'cheap' think Qantas had determined early on that they weren't economic for short-medium routes.
 
Hindsight is always 20-20. We can always argue about the lack of vision etc, but AJ delivered what the shareholders wanted following GFC.

Rather than living and going on about what's in the history books, it's what VH does now or plans to do as it is a new chapter. That will determine whether QF improves going forward.

VH-OQL (the only non-refurbed A380) is on its way to AUH.

Does this mean no more non-refurb bad luck for Qantas customers?

I last flew on a QF A380 back in 2019 (LAX > MEL) and even then, it was in dire need of a refresh. Couldn't imagine what a further 2-3 years of flying since then would have done to it.

Seats were worn out (I was in economy), the IFE system was already dated, there was gaffer tape holding together the galley and lavatories (well, not that bad, but you get the jist of it) and the carpet was well worn out.

Needless to say, I wasn't impressed. In fact, both my A380 experiences were pretty average (the other being on EK way back early last decade). I'll reserve my judgement when I step foot on another A380 - unknown at this stage.

My next overseas trips will be on a B777, B787s and an A330.
 
Alan always hated the 380s, probably because he couldn't give them to Jetstar. Rather sad that two perfectly good ones were broken up as his parting gesture. I'm sure they could use them now.

Even then, QF11 on 2/3 had an APU that was not working, and the pilot blamed a worldwide shortage of parts—so I'm not sure if that strategy even worked as intended.

It would absolutely seem so - maybe they could think outside the box and buy some second hand ones...

SYD-SIN on QF1 A380
SIN-DXB on EK A380
DXB-CAI on EK A380
then the reverse on the way home
