SYD Named 5th Most Luxurious Airport in the world

Luxury shop brands sure - I’m sure they pay a lot of rent. How useful are these ultra high end retail shops for the average passenger using the airport…..I’ve never seen anyone in them, same in MEL, LHR etc. Consequence of privatizing a major piece of infrastructure.

The article topic is a quite specific and rubbish really. But I must say that SYD T1 airside is vastly improved after several renovations. But not “luxurious”….

It didn’t actually say that. Just that it has Gucci stores…

I pass SYD and MEL airports due to necessity, but luxury???

Maybe if the combine T1 with T2 and T3, ie, move T2 and T3 to T1 vicinity, maybe, at a stretch.
If the international airports count as luxurious then the domestic terminals (non-Qantas ones) must count as slums of the earth (looking at you JQ and VA)😂😂
Meanwhile Rex has silently left the chat...

BS! Also BS for Lhr, Cdg!
Certainly CDG is a mess. LHR...probably is quite luxurious. Plenty of eating places, plenty of high end shopping. Also with its high pax through put I think it is probably very high ranking and does quite well. Good transport links. Plenty of hotels close by. Also and I would be curious to know, does it not have more lounges for premier passengers than most? I like it generally.

For those who didn’t want to waste time reading the actual article:
”The survey was conducted by UK-based insurance company All Clear Travel, who analysed more than 1,800 airports to come up with a shortlist of 69 most luxurious airports in the world. The top ten were then confirmed based on the availability of passenger lounges (a minimum of ten required to make the shortlist), and scored on a range of factors. When deciding on the winning spots, the judges assessed number and range of designer shops, number of four-star and five-star hotels located nearby and other luxury experiences on offer”

I guess plebs like myself don’t spend enough time or appreciate luxury good shop, and frankly I am surprised there was at least 10 pax lounge in SYD (maybe they included domestic ones including REx) .

which is why I agree this is ultimately a rubbish award for most pax and public at large, like awarding which city has the most luxury shops

Maybe away from most pax I agree...but they did say luxurious....so on that basis....however I do still struggle with Sydney on that list. Tbf most "luxurious" hotels are also outside the remit of many people.

Also if they include Rex domestic..is that not also just what the Virgin lounge is?

Ah, luxury shopping. A great way to make a place bland, soul-less and absolutely devoid of any character. Wherever you put a whole heap of luxury shops (with a couple of exceptions such as the Champs d Elysees) they seem to suck the life out of wherever they are. At MEL Intl terminal (T2), the walk between the Duty Free Outlet and the main pier used to a lively area with cafes and a tarmac view. Now it is dead passageway full of empty luxury brand stores.
