Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The whole point is to match the Velocity offer and run interference from their disappointing half-year financial results.
It would be an aspect yes but nit the only one. After all, why did VA launch tgeirs? Traditionally lower period for bookings and travel....

And to lock elites into Qantas for another year before, for all practical purposes, they decimate the value of their points balances.

Remember it's also a DP promotion, so isn't just about elite status for everyone (despite the understandable bias for SC in the AFF bubble in general).

Be interesting to know the split across participants tbh.
Maybe someone could organise one of those vote button concepts.

I'd hazard to guess less than 5% here would be on the double points wagon.
I opted for points, but not sure I'll even book a flight, I bat more for the other team, not that there's anything wrong with that!
Interesting though I agree.

Oh here on AFF very small numbers for DP I'm sure.

I meant overall withon the QFF membership who partake - which we'll never know of course.

Just that there are a LOT of QFF members who could care less about SC - and that is what I was getting at.

Yes, for those that won’t be able to make sufficient bookings to allow them to go up in status tiers, then double points is arguably in their mind a better offer.

The higher the tier member, the greater likelihood that they’ll opt for DSC as they perceive more of a benefit with that option.

In QF’s eyes, protecting their high tier membership from leakage is well worth it with the additional revenue kept. Those higher tier members (Gold+) already have most of everything they need (forward rows for seating, QC access) but they know for some, the carrot of DSC will make those Gold members chase Platinum, or Plat to Plat1 and if they enjoy the higher status benefits, will seek to retain them ongoing.

Mental blank.

For a classic award (PC+) booked in J where one sector is in Y (Dash 8)... does this still pay J SC for the Y sector?

I can't help feeling there are fliers out there just waiting for the DSC offers to come out before they book or even go on status runs. I am not really in that position. I can't see myself saying to the wife I need to spend $1500 for a day trip to keep my WP status and enjoy EK first class lounge in Dubai and QF first in SYD or MEL, free seat selection, priority phone service, greater baggage allowance, priority lanes at airports, early boarding. Hmm, well, at least not yet. Perhaps when things get desperate towards the end of my anniversary year.
Perhaps if Mrs Beano comes to enjoy the EK first lounge the perception may change.

Booked a J BNE-NTL-ADL-CNS-BNE daytrip.
All on E190, 69.000 points and $154
Should give 6x28 and 2x18, so 204sc in total.
ADL-NTL is a brilliant little earner when well priced, just falling into the 28sc category

Romantic Weekender to NZ? maybe soften it a bit with a J one way on an A330 somewhere and cheaper Y for the other leg?

A bit easier to justify =)

If you don't fly very often, then yes I think the above is true, probably put myself borderline into that category. So it might seem a bit *unnecessary*, but if you do fly frequently enough, then the partner is probably conscious of how those things help ease the pain.

Have to 'fess up @Beano I am one of those and have done just that!
Knowing we were going away in September, "patiently" waited for DSC and booked.
Having (unintentionally) achieved SG in 2018 and enjoyed the spoils, have used the knowledge of this AFF community to maintain status.
Hmm, well, at least not yet.
We are spending quite a few bucks to do a daytrip for Christmas Day as a status run. Thought Mr Flyfrequently would think it silly but it is one of our WT..heck let's just do it moments.
Even the Flyfrequently offspring now think it's a fun thing for us to do ( am a bit over hosting Lunch on 25/12 for the masses!)

Do what works for you and enjoy.

Finished booking all my planned domestic trips, provided I've done the math right and all the Classic Reward SCs for Points Club are applied with DSC then I should hit Platinum for the first time. Outside of my planned trips around my hobbies, I only had to book one status run day trip up to OOL to hit it. Pretty happy with that.

Now on to the next membership year and a couple of overseas trips.

In March 2019
I indulged in a couple of DSC trips ADL via Mel to OOL
Then F reWard to europe in Sept 2019 before the devaluation….

Having just left paid employment (which got me to Gold) it was a treat for finishing up and getting to see a few Brissy based friends and toppling over into WP.

Best $3,000 I spent as
March 2020 COVID
so through that period of no travel
Then book a fare to keep status to
Comp’d continuing status

5 years later somewhat closer to LTG (those dog leg flights were 10 so 75 free SCs) but ticked off by the price gouging, boycotting seems the most appropriate option

UNTIL fares I’m willing to pay show up
In the meantime, as much as I like WP LIVING here there’s little benefit to be derived from Flounge unless on re-positions or travels OS.

And even on the DSC offer 2xOOL-MEL-Auckland makes spend of $2,600 or more likely $3,700 to get 1120 SCs so then more to get to BrisVegas and so it goes ….
