What cheeses me off

I dislike Charity muggers immensely. Any organization that employs these paid harassers immediately goes on my list of organizations not to support.

When I was at university I was mauled by one of those wilderness society koalas walking through the pedestrian tunnel at Central station. Turns out the person inside was someone I went to school with, I was horrified to learn from her that she was being paid $30/hour (in 1996) when sometimes she didn't even collect $30 of donations in a whole shift. Dodgy as.

Also if they rope you into a subscription donation, its harder to cancel than a gym membership, and they often prey on those least able to afford to donate. No very charity minded.
I absolutely hate Chuggers intensely. The charities use these private companies, who treat their 'staff' incredibly badly, to collect money. The charities use the excuse that it's an efficient way to collect the money.

One thing the chuggers aren't supposed to do, is claim they work for the charity they are collecting for. I have a bit of fun, by asking them. "who do you actually work for - as it's illegal to make a false claim about who you represent?" If they say the charity's name, I lodge a formal complaint with the charity and the ANC. If they say XYZ, I thank them and move on.

WCMO is filthy individuals who chew gum and instead of spitting into a tissue and disposing of later, or walking to a bin and disposing of right away decide to stick it to the theatre seat which is the same colour as their gum (and no not even under it) so the next unsuspecting patron (aka me), sits on it and now has a sticky mess on the butt of my brand new dress.

Chew gum, but be thoughtful in disposing of it.

WCMO off even more is the gum was likely deposited at todays matinee, so why didnt the cleaners remove it before tonight's evening performance?

Now Googling how to best remove gum.

WCMO - me 😡.

Returned hire car to AVIS at BNE. Go over to Airport, through security, in lounge and then realise I’ve left my iPhone cord in the car.

Turn around, back out of the terminal, back across to Avis and try to find the car which I only left 20 minutes prior.

Not there - find someone; they say it’s gone over to the other area for cleaning, not the area just 10 m away where they’re cleaning Avis cars.

They radio the other station I tell the rego number, they go check the car and guess what - no cord.

Cord definitely plugged into the car when I returned it so twenty minutes later, it’s just disappeared. Magic!

But the nice thing was that they then went over to a desk thing, opened the drawer and gave me another iPhone charger cord that someone had left behind another time. Not as good as the one I left, but not a bad result from Avis staff.

Pity supermarkets got rid of those plastic bags and now sell us those 25cent paper bags which are useless for carrying milk

Please reuse me, great, when its got a hole I don’t think so.
Those plastic bags got a lot more reuse.

Most didn't reuse the old plastic bags. They unpack the bag then toss it out.

And fair play, they probably do that to the paper bags too, though at least paper breaks down faster.

We used to use the old plastic bags as bin bags (liners), so at least we got a decent use out of them. I also tend to take them with me travelling, e.g. to use as a laundry bag, or to separate out items.

The reusable plastic bags (more expensive than the paper ones) are relatively fit for purpose, including 3L of milk.

Use a cloth bag for heavy items, the plastic/paper bags are not really designed for multiple reuse, they are more so for when you have more items than the cloth bags you brought with you. Plus the cloth bags have larger handles meaning can carry heavy items on shoulder which is more practical.

I do buy one paper one every week as excellent for putting the recycling in, then can be tossed in the recycle bin, rather than the hassle of emptying a box or plastic bag.

I'll also put forward a "WCMO - me".

I've been noticing (after posting) that I'm making more typos. They tend to be sort of autocorrect typos, except I don't have autocorrect enabled on my phone keyboard. For example, a recent post I made upthread I wrote "I tender to" rather than "I tend to". It's mostly the classic overlooking a misspelling of a word if the first and last letters appear correct. Then other times it's a typo from accidentally touching a letter close to the intended one (e.g. typing "ehy" instead of "why").

It's annoying me to hell because I despise the whole idea that attention to spelling and grammar doesn't seem to matter anymore due to the new information era we are in (and every second person thinks you're a grammar naz_ if you pick at someone's grammar); seems hypocritical if you call out on something that you can't demonstrate yourself. I also can't get why I am doing it more and more.

Well I’m still using the original bags that SA banned years ago for fishing. They come back filled with smelly fish etc we’ve caught, washed out and turned inside out and hung up on the clothes line.

I have been having the same issue. My reasoning is - new keyboards were supplied at work, which has bigger & raised keys than the old one. So I'm still getting used to the new keyboard?

I also make a lot of typos, when I leave my fingernails to grow. I'm someone that trims the nails to as close/small as possible so that it doesn't interfere with my typing.

funny you should post this. I just did exactly this just a few minutes ago. Simply picked up the bag filled with recycling and into the bin. First time I’ve done this as I usually take reusable bags. That I bought from the UK in Tesco and which are fab. People actually stop me and ask where I bought them. And every week I’ll do the same.

My excuse as well. I try and pay attention but that only lasts a few posts and back the typos come. though i have an extra cause especially using a phone as my fat fingers often hit 2 keys at the same time so for me why can come out as wehy.

Irks me too.

There is a glitch with my new Bluetooth keyboard at home (connected to laptop) where it often doesn't register the first letter typed, which is a real pain. Have tried all the suggested trouble shooting to no avail, especially an issue when entering passwords.

At least if using Microsoft products like word or outlook the app learns to auto correct my usual typos (one hand types faster than the other) correctly changing "teh" to "the" and "compnay" to "company" etc

More frustrating is when posting from my phone or tablet, the samsung auto correct chooses to predict/auto incomplete words as i am typing them so illogically or if a space doesn't register replace words with completely illogical substitutes. I used to find that a new phone would learn your usual word choices quite fast, but lately seem to be getting dumber in that respect.

So many of my posts are edited because when i see them later on a larger screen I'm horrified by the auto-correct substitutes or typos, the perfectionist in me needs to go back and correct them.

You mean the "AI text function" 🤭

What is also CMO this week: Going to a concert on Thursday, the venue only just published the timings today and the headline act doesn't even start til 9pm!

Now I am a night owl, but most people are not and have to work the next day and it takes 30-40 mins to get out of the venue once the show is done and limited transport for staff to get home, I really think the main act should go on at 8 (unless a Fri or Sat).

FYI timings are:

6:45pm some local support act I've never heard of, who upon googling is a Gen Z whose music is a genre not likely to resonate with the Gen X audience there for the headline act. Why bother, most will skip her.

7:30 main support act

9 - 11pm main act

We feel there is zero reason to rush after work, are going to eat a nice dinner locally and aim for 8pm arrival to hopefully see the 1 song of the 2nd support act we know.
