Jetstar early check-in (Syd International)

One of the best ways to search all JQ 787 domestic flights is using ITA Matrix.

You can enter multiple origins and destinations (so I enter all JQ 787 origins/destinations), then under advanced controls enter aircraft t:787 as the extension code, select "see calendar" and put a start date, finally select nonstop only.

When you press search you'll get results like this:

and when you click on one of the dates you'll see the flight options on that date:

Ignore the prices as they're typically a bit lower as the prices on the ITA Matrix are what Jetstar feeds into the GDS (for agents/interline airlines).

Obviously the same search works with QF 787 flights as well but do note that whilst Jetstar exclusively run 787s from international terminals, Qantas a couple times a year will operate them from domestic terminals (often repositioning for antarctic flights etc) so just worth checking the terminal before booking.

Does JQ still have positioning flights from MEL to BNE? There used to be a MEL to OOL (onwards to NRT) flight, but not sure if that got carried over with the shift from OOL to BNE.
I've just checked the full year until end of December using the above method and there are none from MEL-BNE or SYD-BNE (or BNE-SYD/BNE-MEL) scheduled at this stage.

The only flights from MEL to Queensland is up to Cairns (nothing from Sydney). During February they'll leave around 8:40am in the morning on a Monday, and in March until the 20th on both a Monday and Wednesday. Beyond 20 March, there are currently no scheduled 787 flights from SYD or MEL to anywhere in QLD.

There will still be a couple of weekly flights between SYD and MEL for the rest of the year but a lot less then we saw last year with a couple of months this year having none scheduled all together. QF9 from MEL-PER also ends in July leaving QF5 from SYD as the only Qantas option.

Or are there too many things that can go wrong ?

I don't think I would fly just for the sake of it. Only taking JQ63 as I need to go Melbourne and might as well take the one that gets me access to the first lounge!

It's currently expensive at $440 return however it's possible to book both as a return booking. The benefit would be any delays on JQ47 and you'd get rebooked if needed.

Note also that QF33 (to CDG via PER) starts up in July, giving SYD a year round (though not daily) option.

cause I'm liekly to fall out of WP, I booked several JQ flights (with points) as a final farewell Flounge February fanfare fun on 2 & 5 JQ63 ex Sydney (which co-incides with a couple of international ODI Aust v Windies - not really looking forward to the mad 7am JQ47 flight ex Melb on the 4th, but its meant to be fun!) (apparently can do one accompanying guest)

I did precisely that on 15 December. It worked perfectly. I usually don't book return flights with JQ, but separate bookings for each leg but, to avoid the possibility of a delay to JQ47 resulting in me missing JQ63, I had the return flight on a single booking.

It was $418 return, but I need SCs and it was a pleasant way to spend a day with brekkie in MEL Flounge and lunch in SYD Flounge

Presumably, these $400 plus figures are for J? or Y max perhaps

May I ask @Hampton Mike how many SC's and were the flights full?
Sounds like a day out that I would enjoy ✈️
20SCs in each direction (MAX = earning rate of QF Y Flex). The flights weren’t full, but I was surprised how many people were domestic passengers. In fact one passenger I talked to was not even aware he had booked a JQ flight from the international terminal until he got the text message warning him where and when to turn up.

MAX also entitles choice of seat so it’s always Row 23 for me - metres of leg room.

You might snag points return tics this Friday 2nd if you’re Swift

For the rest of Feb it’s not so easily doable (apparently there’s some famous singer doing Melb then Syd concerts and by late Feb JQ63 is MIA
They were available when I booked JQ63 yesterday

Happy to guest into Sydney Flounge if you’re flying on the same day and “first cab on the rank”

No wonder I went the Y
6,400 points route

(Aside no J reward seats available which at 13,800 are pretty competitive)
I only looked at the Qantas site @CaptJCool
Checked Jetstar site for those Friday flights - comes in at $371 return ($200 up, $171 back Ymax)
Thanks @Hampton Mike , never crossed my mind to book through JQ, not something on my radar!!
Had I booked, could have come under the Travel mistake thread......🤭

Go figure that one out.
Short story… We are getting a bit off topic here but JQs own website vs cash tickets from QF vs reward seats via Qf all come from different pools. It’s possible that one of the pools have been booked more heavily leaving the others cheaper/available.

Long story I’ve posted about QF bookings on JQ elsewhere on AFF before. If interested I can dig up a past post?
