Hi guys,

I recently travelled to Bali using my Platinum entitlement to one trip per year using my Economy Reward Seat guarantee for 4 people. Haven't used this before, such a great benefit.

After I landed on the outbound leg, I noticed that I earned status credits and points for this flight.

As it was a reward seat, I didn't add the velocity numbers to the other members (of which pool to me). I updated the booking before taking the inbound leg, and was also credited for status credits and points for the other members of my group and I.

Does anyone know if these fares typically earn SC's and points, or was this a mistake? I wanted to claim a missing points for the other members for the outbound leg.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like they opened up revenue seats to fit you in. Bonus!

They sometimes book into a revenue class - I think it comes down to how Velocity and Virgin have agreed to make this work.

@Dantheman22 did you manage to claim your missing SC?

I'm trying to figure out something similar - re: earning SC via reward seats.

We typically book full fare seats directly via Singapore Airlines, but this time we have 4 full reward seats booked using KrisFlyer miles. We will definitely be putting in our VFF membership as one parent is Platinum too and want the lounge access. But this time, we were hoping to switch beneficiary to try and get all the status pooled to the second parent since this trip could potentially give the second parent enough SC for Gold (if I read the table and fare class correctly).

However, I noticed on VFF's website, they also state that you cannot earn SC when:
  • Any Singapore Airlines flight where KrisFlyer miles have been used as form of payment irrespective of the fare class flown

Looking back at our travel history, I purchased a full fare economy seat directly via Singapore Airlines, but got lucky and was able to upgrade one leg (SIN to MEL) to Business Class. Based on their status earning table, I got the correct amount of status. Perhaps an upgrade is not a form of payment?

I'm a bit confused as to what qualifies as SC earning and what does not!

Do they ever book into lite (and hence no bag)? It would be odd if a reward seat came without a luggage entitlement, but earning SCs for the whole family might make up for it...

Reward Seats are an all-inclusive offering, with a complimentary checked baggage allowance, seat selection, etc:

Understood, but for the Platinum seat guarantee seats they draw from revenue fare classes if reward seats are not available. So trying to understand if reward conditions apply, or those of the underlying fare class.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
