Poor WA - a potential blind side

The ABC understands 72 guards and detainees were flown from Sydney's COVID-19 red zone to an immigration detention centre in Western Australia early on Tuesday morning.

Those detainees were from Villawood Immigration Detention Centre, which is in the Canterbury–Bankstown local government area (LGA) that has one of the highest current rates of confirmed cases of COVID-19 for any LGA in Australia.

Neither West Australian Premier Mark McGowan nor the local Shire President were told of the transfer.

Australian Border Force, which was in charge of the transfer, is refusing to say why detainees were moved.

I'm guessing one less candidate for Qld CHO, unless they were planning a short stint / induction:

Meet Australia's newest Deputy Chief Health Officer

Professor Michael Kidd has just stepped up.

"With me today I'm very pleased to introduce Australia's newest Deputy Chief Health Officer, Dr Sonya Bennett.

"Sonya is a familiar face to many of you. She is very eminent public health physician and until recently was the Deputy Chief Health Officer for Queensland Health."

As a retired doctor I say two words Good.Luck (or was that Poison.Chalice??!)

This is unfortunately not how vaccination works. You need a certain proportion of the population to be vaccinated to account for the people who can't be vaccinated and for the effectiveness of the vaccine. This applies to all vaccines and, as we have seen in places like Iceland, the UK and Isreal, even very high levels of vaccination do not provide the level of protection you get from the current rates of, for example, measles vaccination. What we have seen with measels is that when parents opt out of vaccinating their children you get to a level where fatal cases of an entirely preventable disease start occurring.

I don't think that it is government overreach (or business overreach) to mandate vaccines to engage in certain activities, it's in the public interest.
Right trying to do this while working from home is a nuisance so let me flesh out a few things here.

Herd immunity.

key word being .... IMMUNITY. something that is not granted by the vaccine.

So for the HERD to be immune, the main reason being to protect the rest of the herd. To achieve this we need immunity. To do this we need the vast majority of people to HAVE GOTTEN AND RECOVERED from covid. NOT to be vaccinated.

Now, why are the vaccines being pushed so hard ... because they make it so that when it comes to your turn to get THE VIRUS (cue scary music) you brush it off, or you are crook for a couple of days and that's it. Job done. you have now done you part it was minor inconvenience and you are now IMMUNE you are now part of the herd immunity solution.

the vast majority of the country is going to need to get and recover from covid.

Let me state that again as it really doesnt seem to be sinking in with the 'make everyone get the passport crowd'

the vast majority of the country is going to need to get and recover from covid

I dont care if you have a passport, I care if you have had covid, ie. I care if you are immune or not.

If you have HAD covid, the antibodies you have are better than the vaccine, as it currently stands, that is a fact.

If you have HAD covid you are part of the immune section of the crowd, doesn't matter if you were in hospital, if you had a bit of a cough, if you took a day off, if you nearly died. doesn't matter.

If you have the antibodies in your system and fought off THE VIRUS there is no reason on this earth that anybody should say 'you cannot go into this AFL game' while they usher in people who have had the vaccine but not the virus. they are FAR more likely to catch it than you if you have the antibodies, the number of double infections are ludicrously low (there may be a variant in the future where that changes but as it is now ... nope).

The idea that 'you need a certain proportion of the populace vaccinated' to grant herd immunity is wrong. you need a certain proportion of the populace vaccinated so that as the virus goes through the vast majority of people to give them the ability to make antibodies they dont need to go go hospital, they dont need medical attention, they dont need ventilation, they dont succumb to it.

The vaccine does NOT grant immunity, it should be a fairly simple step for people to understand that 80% vaccine coverage will also NOT grant immunity.

Once you say "I am going to get covid" then your choices are before you, I advise you take the vaccine, you ARE going to be part of the herd, one way or the other, and with the vaccine you will have a much better time of it.

But people saying you can only access X or you need to prove you have had your shots? This is supposed to be a free country. This is supposed to be the last of a tamed frontier. This is supposed to be a country that has a kangaroo and an Emu on its coat of arms partly because they are two animals that CANNOT walk backwards. Which is exactly what we need to do, walk through this virus, with the help of vaccines, but thats peoples CHOICE, as I want the government back out of my life I dont want to invite bob the local covid passport checker in their place.

I'm impressed with your knowledge.

Perhaps you can point us to this fact, and that it will protect you better from further variants?

Antibody Evolution after SARS-CoV-2 mRNA Vaccination enjoy.
Further variants is moot, currently unknown in regard to both old antibody response and vaccine response, as i would hope you would have picked up in my post, i'm pro vaccine, i'm anti-mandation/having to prove it to strangers

To belabour the point ...

imagine two people:

A. has had covid
B. has had the vaccine

A. will not pick it up if exposed except in very very very very very rare occasions
B. as we hear every day, can get, become ill, and transmit the virus

you really disagree that prior infection grants superior outlook ?

(bear in mind A cannot get into the AFL game, B can.)

This isn’t about AFL.
This is about preventing overwhelming infections, hospitalization and deaths.
There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the current vaccines prevent hospitalizations and deaths.
Going out and getting Covid does neither.

I don't think many people would want to be the lab mouse that proves it (or otherwise).
mate, the most protected people on the planet are those that have both had covid, and had the vaccine.

i'm confused ...

you dont think i'm saying that also when i said ...

"Once you say "I am going to get covid" then your choices are before you, I advise you take the vaccine, you ARE going to be part of the herd, one way or the other, and with the vaccine you will have a much better time of it."

I am not telling anybody to go out and get anything, i'm saying to face the reality that with all the vaccines in the world, most people ARE going to get covid at some point.

Prior infection does not grant superior immunity over vaccine immunity to current VOC (Delta)
That information is not correct.

I am very confused as to what your exact messaging is to be honest.

Australia has a population in which there are very few people who have had Covid.
The way out of the lockdowns/ border closures etc is to get as many people as possible vaccinated with two doses as quickly as we can.

Any messaging about natural immunity superiority etc is wrong, and very off topic for Australian Reports of the Virus Spread.

Melbourne has had more cases in this outbreak than Sydney did at the same point in time, despite Melbourne locking down on Day 1/2 and Sydney delaying.

There's no guarantee Melbourne won't have the same trajectory.

I think the worst if comparing trajectories is the ACT, particularly when you adjust for population.
The 22 the other day would have been the equivalent of 400+ in NSW.
