Hi all,

We are travelling for the first time with an infant next week Melbourne to Dubai (EK409) then Dubai to London (EK9) in J. Naturally, we are a bit nervous about the long journey.

What also compounds the problem is that the bassinet is not guaranteed for our 9 month old. Have many had experience in J with an infant? What is the likelihood of not getting a bassinet? I was told it does not depend on the time you check in, rather, the youngest babies are given preference.

As an alternative, we though about setting up our compact travel pram. We are booked in row 6 (first row) of J. Does anyone know if there is enough room for a compact pram to be set up (in our own personal space of course) and if so, is that allowed during cruising?

Many thanks in advance

No experience, sorry, but do you know how to monitor your seat from now until check-in? Sometimes seats get changed for obscure reasons (read: a high-status pax has requested your seat!!) but if you are quick to call the airline there is a decent chance you might get them back, or an equivalent one. Still check-in as early as you can - even on-line if you can, at the earliest opportunity. Every little trick helps.

Different airline, but you might like to look a this recent AFF report on travelling with a 9mo. Chokkies for the FAs seems like a good idea!

Thanks RooFlyer. Yes good idea. A box of chocolates/treats for the FAs sounds like a plan!
I'm keen to have the pram set up provided there is enough room in front of us. I have called Emirates- assistant seemed a little unsure but said probably not allowed due to safety reasons. based on her uncertainty though, I'm not convinced

In my experience, they generally don't allow prams/strollers on the plane. You can take them up to the point of boarding but they get stored in the hold. I would suggest arriving at the airport for checkin as soon as it opens to try and ensure you can get a bassinet. Good luck!

There is a travel pram that folds up into a cabin size bag/cover - seen it only once and was quite impressed with it. But wasnt used during the flight.

We've travelled with our less than 2 year old daughter a number of times on EK and each time in economy and each time I've called and have had bassinet seat pre-allocated.

Don't understand why they would treat business class differently.

We have a travel pram that is suitable to bring on board- super compact! Just unsure if they'll let us open it up during cruising.
And we have a bassinet allocated to our booking but it is never guaranteed and subject to availability. My concern is that our baby is a fairly big 9 month old and may not fit- her hight is about the same size as the bassinet length so hoping the pram was a good backup

we have flown Emirates many times with our 2 kids now 4 and 2. We found the Bassinet's more trouble than they are worth. Every time the seat belt light came on we had to remove our child, you would be surprised how often it goes on even when there is no sign of turbulence. this greatly disturbed out childs sleep. we found it easy sleeping them on our laps in economy, would think sharing a bed would be easier although may make it difficult to enjoy J for 1 parent.

i would be surprised if they allowed any kind of pram, it's not secured down which sounds very dangerous to child and others.

We were allowed to put pram in overhead locker but not allowed to use it on QF. The bassinets are good for them to sit up and play in or put all the baby bags in out of the way but we were in Y for the QF trip. Going Singapore J in December nearly 2 year old.

Hi all, following up from our trip, our little one was fairly cramped in the bassinet and could not sleep while in it. Quite well behaved for the first leg (mel-dxb) but started to become very unsettled from dxb-lgw. Emirates J crew were very accommodating and let us set up the pram in a corner of bar area (supervised of course) to allow baby to sleep. I'm guessing a pram at the Emirates bar is not something that's seen every day!
