Byron Bay break

Just a mini-TR with a local flavour to add to the mix. Apologies in advance for the mixed quality of the photos – I really don’t know why some photos work out whilst others don’t! The gentleman, MasterC and I spent 4 nights up in Byron Bay recently. Flying Y up and back to Coolongatta and a Hertz hire car, well enough said about those aspects. It was a relatively easy drive down south in just under an hour. We stayed at the Byron at Byron resort which is located about 3 km out of Byron Bay in Suffolk Park. We booked the base room – 1 bedroom with a kitchenette. There was a 4 seater dining table, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and cooktop. Next to the dining table was a lounge area with a couch (that also folded out into a bed) and a coffee table. The bedroom had a king size bed and sliding doors so that you could open up the room or separate if preferred. The bathroom was quite large with a separate bathtub and shower.

Whilst the room was quite nice, it wasn’t sound proofed very well so you could hear other guests coming and going quite easily. The bed was also not very comfortable, it was very saggy and almost felt like a futon. Overall, we were reasonably happy with it but probably wouldn’t return (more because of its location).

The property has a rainforest feel as it is set on 45 acres. We enjoyed walking around and exploring the different areas of the property. There is also an exit at the back that has a path that leads down to the beach, so one day we went on a little adventure down there.

We also headed up to Killen Falls at Tintenbar one of the days. It was a bit wet, muddy and precarious but we made it down to the base of the falls and back up again.

We had some great food whilst in Byron Bay. We enjoyed a lunch at Bayleaf so much we headed back there again for breakfast on our last day. The kids breakfast looked very fancy! The coconut cold brew was good fun too.

We visited Il Buco and had some tasty antipasto and pizza.

One day we went out to The Farm and had lunch at Three Blue Ducks. This was a great space for kids too with a little playground, lots of animals to visit and a kids menu at the restaurant. We shared a burrata to start, then followed by the fish and mussels. This was definitely one of my favourite meals of the trip.
