Seat choice LAX - SYD when QF says can only request JFK - LAX

My daughter rang QF who said they can't put in a seat request for the 2nd sector QF12 on 10 May. Is this correct? I'm sure I have done it before. She wants a single aisle seat in J, so centre I guess, but I don't know how to get one for her or even if it's not too late. Her employer had it booked.

It's a system problem due to having different aircraft types for each sector.
May need to try calling again until they get an agent who knows how to do it.

Thanks Himeno, I got a very nice sounding agent and it took 40 mins, but daughter now has an acceptable seat.
