I had an experience in January where I flew YVR/NRT with JAL in J and they said I should use the Plaza Premium Lounge. Went there - full, noisy, poor options... then realised I could actually go to the CX lounge. OMG what a relief, so much better... (there is a BA lounge too, but the timing doesnt line up to the JL flight).

The tip here is to be aware of ALL lounge options available to you, not just where they tell you to go...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I always try to check the oneworld site for lounges at airports i pass through then do a little googleing and youtubeing to find the best one.

Stopped by the LHR CX lounge a few months back instead of the suggested BA lounge.
Its a shame though that "capacity constraints" often mean that the SFO CX lounge is off the table.

The same applies to OneWorld (and possibly skyteam too). Star Alliance lounges vary widely and it always pays to know the best one. In BKK for example that's SQ rather than TG. In MEL it's also SQ rather than NZ (etc)
