Is there a confirmed timeline or anything you can share on the progress of getting a new APP up and running for AFF?
Can I bump ths? Would really like an app version as well.
At this stage we continue to evaluate options but there is no news.
The primary reason for this comes down to the fact that apps for Xenforo generally do not provide any extra functionality than what you would see if you browsed the website from your phones web browser. This is because the majority of users find that Xenforo's responsive design works a lot better on mobiles and small screens than other/previous competing products, so there is little demand to build apps that offer functionality that is already available.
What function do you want on an app that the current site cannot do on a phone?
This is exactly the problem we have. We have found a couple of apps that we could buy a license for, but after launching the app the interface would either be worse, or exactly the same as what you already get in your web browser – something that to us, seems pointless.
While many/most seem happy with the new site/platform/whatever - I’m not one. I really miss being able to see the first sentence of every post and am now far less engaged
I would guess this varies person to person, but as a Moderator I find my job is much easier now. As a user, I also find replying to general topics much easier. To each their own.
Also the website is not as user friendly for me to use on an iPhone as the app was.
I find that I now only use the website on my iPad Pro - which is less then I would have via the phone.
While I agree the first app, and the last app did have some great user interface features that had me far more engaged than without the app at the time, this was mainly due to comparing the app to what I would see in my browser instead –
at the time. The reality now is that if we were to get the app that makes the most sense for us, you would see no difference between launching the app and using your web browser.
We can't relaunch the old app for a couple of reasons, firstly, that it was made for vBulletin, not Xenforo. Secondly though, it was riddled with issues and bringing it back would only lead to a degraded user experience.
