From 5 August 2015, domestic customers flying without bags will be required to check in at the airport at least 30 minutes ahead of their scheduled departure time (instead of 15 minutes): Check in Options | Qantas.

Qantas Club, Gold, Platinum, Platinum One Frequent Flyer members and Business passengers will still be able to check in at the airport up to 20 minutes before their scheduled departure time if they do not have accompanying bags.

Currently, less than 2 per cent of our customers check in for their flights between 15 and 30 minutes, helped in part by advancements in ways to check in before arriving at the airport (Auto Check-in, the Qantas app and Online Check-in).

This change will help us continue to deliver premium on-time performance – something we know you really value: https://youtu.be/Phb2BfKl4dM.

Thanks Red Roo. I just received the email. Is it really the 2% of late checkin passengers that delay flights or is it the people wandering around the airport or Qantas club and getting to the gate at the last minute that cause most of the delays?
Thanks

Red Roo, my first thought was no probs - I usually use mobile or online checkin anyway.

But then remembered the times I jump on the next flight on a flexi fare. I assume this means the earliest flight you can now move to is at least 30 mins after you arrive at the airport?

EDIT: Sorry, WP 20 mins exception. Yeah thats no big issue. 5 mins longer.

QF New Domestic and Regional check in times

Received from QF today

New domestic and regional check-in times from 5 August 2015
To help us get you to your destination on time, and because check-in is now easier than ever, we'll be closing general airport check-in for all domestic and regional flights 30 minutes before departure. This means that customers travelling without checked baggage will need to be checked-in at least 30 minutes before the flight's scheduled departure time.

As a valued Gold member, to provide you with more flexibility, you’ll be able to check-in at the airport lounges or Premium Service Desks up to 20 minutes before departure, if you have no bags to check-in.

For customers with checked bags, there is no change, and you need to ensure you have checked your bags in at least 30 minutes before departure. International check-in times are not affected by this change.

At least i will get an extra 10 minutes for the next 20 days then back to silver
