I was just chatting with a friend who works with QR and apparently the plan now is to have the new lounge open by the end of February, but they aren't necessarily expecting it before late March. There will be a Business and First Class lounge, and will be located at D7-D8 (so it should be quite big).

The new CX lounge is lovely, but this will give especially OWE an interesting new option.

When I flew BKK/xDOH/BCN in April in whY but as a QF WP I was given a lounge invite for one of the TG Royal Silk lounges that was closer to the departure gate.

It takes ages to get around that airport so not sure how far it would be from the CX Loingd to the QR departure gates.

QR want pax at the boarding gate 60 minutes prior to departure as they scan your boarding pass before you go into the holding pen so they xan find out who the fail to board pax are and follow them up before the boarding actually starts.

QR LHR lounge is nothing short of beautiful, however only their own J or F pax can access (or it was when. I was there). OWS and OWR got sent to the skyteam lounge. Wonder what will apply here.

BKK is the ultimate testament on how disjointed a modern airport can become, full stop.

There is a huge hardcover book in the Novotel BKK Airport with the title "Suvarnabhumi Airport - the land of smiles" or something to that effect which is the finiest example of propaganda I've read in a longtime. It's full of glowing reviews apparently from travellers around the globe singing the praises of just about anything aka "the staffs (sic) were always happy and smiling" and many other grammatical fails.

In fact the comments all sounded like they had been written by the same person no matter whether the tourist was from New Zealand or Denmark.

Anyone who's been to the 'new' BKK Airport would realise that the comments in the book bear absolutely no resemblance to the modern day shambles that is Suvarnabhumi.

But what about the hapless WP souls slumming it in whY on QR who have been spoiled by F Lounge experiences in AU?

They get upset, I suppose.

Seems to still be the case. http://www.qatarairways.com/au/en/airports-and-lounges.page

Just found some pics - our A380 departure gate for QR833 BKK/DOH was C3 so I would've been at the Royal Silk Lounge in 'C'. I thought the boarding one hour prior was an A380 thing however it also applied to the next flight DOH/BCN which was only an A330.

I don't expect OWE/OWS to be allowed into either lounge unless travelling J or F. Qatar has a habit of wanting to keep lounges exclusive (eg LHR - Skyteam lounge if you're OWE/OWS and not flying J or F, in DOH, OWE are now put in a shoebox that has no better catering food wise than the priority pass lounge etc etc)

QR's OW lounges are a bit disappointing for a hub. Trying to get a seat can be like a game of musical chairs in the mornings in the DOH OW business lounge.
But not like BA's outpost at Bordeaux. An unstaffed room behind the food shop, get the door lock combination from the shop staff & let yourself in.

There is one good thing about BKK airport - the fantastic TG F lounge :)

Now about this new QR lounge, a good itinerary would be BKK-DOH-CDG all on A380 F to sample the new coming BKK F lounge plus the existing DOH F lounge which I heard is very good.
