Loss of economy x seat at check in

I've got a contact who works in the team servicing Club members. He assures me that nobody, not even a Red on non-member, gets evicted from booked Econ X seats for Club members.

    Potential Velocity Subscription Service

I got the email too and there was a very wide range of potential add-ins. Everything from discounts for F&B on-board, to an annual free domestic flight to a monthly tranche of status credits. My read was VA taking the temp of potential customers and relative appeal of each benefit. Could be a...

    Points plus Pay Question

The rule here - on VA anyway - is that if the fare shows as being a "Reward", you wont earn status credits. Reward seats fares must be paid in full using Points, though you can chose to use 'cash' or Points for Tax/Fees etc. If the fare you book doesn't show 'Reward' you'll earn status credits...

how far ahead do you know how full a flight will be?

I flew VA in PE in Apr this year. Its not Business Class by any means - obviously - but very good nonetheless with pre-departure drink, good legroom and hip room. Meals were served on ceramics with a proper tablecloth and a nice choice of wines to boot. One downside is the armrests don't raise...

Back to Gold after a year off - it was a near run thing.

That's a great story, CONGRATS! There's always the potential to earn a few additional status credits via Coles/flybuys when the going gets tough ;)

    PER-SYD Upgrade waitlist?

Waitlisting does work. Clearance is FROM 3 days to 4 hours for Golds, but if you happen to see a 'Business Reward' seat become available on your flight, call to request your Upgrade as its the same inventory. If all else fails, ask again at the Lounge. That last hour or so pre-flight is highly...

QANTAS Vs Virgin PE to US (and then MEX)

Flew VA PE LAX - SYD earlier this year and was very impressed. Good food and wine choices, great service, seat width and leg-room all fine. As a Plat, you plus one would get access to the Lounges, Business Check-in, Priority Boarding etc, etc....actually, Family Pool your status credits and...

Benefits of virgin Platinum when travelling on Delta

You can certainly use your Velocity points to book an Economy or Business Reward seat on Delta - or most of their partners - but you cant use Points to UPGRADE a revenue ticket. That's pretty normal across alliance networks. No surprise that Delta wont upgrade the whole family to Comfort+...

    Eligibility for Gold (expiring credits)

Once your HA status credits drop in if you are still at 500 you'll automatically be upgraded. If you've already had status credits expire but the HA activity date shows prior to them expiring, call VFF and ask them to do the calculation. You'll get the upgrade processed that way. Enjoy!

What other benefits will VA cut?

The new CEO has publicly stated that he'll announce the new VA Group strategy in Nov this year following a major review of the business. You'd have to think that everything is on the table. The only thing that i think is abundantly clear already is a determination to achieve profitability.

    Connecting Flight & Lounge Passes

Actually, there is no need to pre-assign the passes to any flight. Assuming all 4 passes show in your VFF account online, you can simply arrive at the lounge with your boarding passes and redeem any number of lounges entry passes in conjunction with that flight. I agree that you'll likely not...

Fly ahead on points upgraded getaway fare?

Actually, I have it on good authority (Lounge staff) that in practice, if the booking has been upgraded to Business Class, a fly ahead is permitted. After all, they are now dealing with a Business Class traveller and if there are seats available on a earlier flight, why not make a J class pax happy?

No more free items from retail menu when flying business

We all want VA in the market place right? Some things are going to have to change to achieve that and I see this as a very small impact in the scheme of things.

    Family pooling - changing members

I've heard a few times that they'll review your last few years and apply an average to see if that would have got you there. If in your previous couple of years you had more SCs than you need to maintain, you might get lucky.
