    Ask The Pilot

Saturday 13 July YSSY was down to using RWY25 for take offs and landings from the morning through until around 2:00PM. I came in from WSSS on the delayed QF2 service just prior to 0600 landing on RWY34L and was then on QF439 YSSY - YMEL using RWY25 operated by a 738. Do the 738's, A330's and...

    Ask The Pilot

When cleared to pushback does Ground, as part of the push back clearance, tell the crew which way the aircraft needs to be facing on completion of the push or does the Pilot communicating with the tug tell the tug driver which way they need to be pointing (South, East, West, North)?

Pre 9/11 I got the jump seat on an AN A320 MEL-SYD service. At the top of climb the FO left the cockpit to go to the loo and the Captain put on his oxygen mask. Is it still SOP with a 2 pilot crew where one leaves the cockpit the remaining pilot puts on his/her oxygen mask?

How long until you get to LTP? (Or are you already there ^_~)

The tech companies I've worked for over the last 8 yrs were HQ'd either on the West or East Coast. Some of the older legacy companies have policies that if you're a certain level or above (say VP) and travel is 8hrs+ then you're entitled to business class. Most of the newish tech companies I...

How long until you get to LTP? (Or are you already there ^_~)

Been a QF FF since 1995. Flying patterns have changed over the years. Prior to 4 March 2002 (Ansett collapse) I split my travel between AN (Domestic) and QF (International). Travel through until 2003 was majority domestic in Y. Between 2003 - 2006 it was 75% domestic Y and 25% international J...

    Platinum One experiences?

Was on QF26 HND - SYD on Friday evening 14th June. On departure the CSM announced there were more than 50 Platinum / OWE (or greater) passengers on the flight. I'm guessing this flight along with possibly a Sunday SYD/MEL - SIN/LHR, LAX would have the highest ratio of Platinum / OWE passengers.

Was on Friday evening's 14/6 QF26 744 service from HND-SYD. Flying in/out of either NRT or HND on a regular basis you would be forgiven to think that you were driving your way back to Sydney as the time and distance from the terminal to the threshold of RWY34R is huge. Due you factor an overhead...

    Ask The Pilot

As a passenger I've had a couple of these incidents where there was an issue with the brakes. The first on a BA744 out of Boston into Heathrow. The PIC said they would have to keep the gear down for X minutes prior to retracting the gear (i presume waiting for the wheels to stop spinning). From...

    Ask The Pilot

Way too many years ago now QF9 was MEL-SIN-LHR and served by a 744. It was during the Northern Hemisphere winter. As the aircraft was being loaded the PIC gave a PA to say that one of the auto throttle computers had failed. Albeit we could have taken off with fault he elected to replace the unit...

Was on Sundays 9 June QF1 SYD-SIN A380 service. Our boarding was delayed by about 30 minutes due to a failure of the hydraulics on one of the catering trucks. When we boarded the temperature inside the cabin was unusually high due to a failed APU. The Captain (Harry Wubben from QF32) explained...

    Ask The Pilot

On last nights (31/5) QF2 A380 SIN-SYD services. The Captain introduced the tech crew as being 2 * Captains + 1 * FO. Would this imply the 2nd Captain would do the duties of the SO during the flight? I'm assuming the 2nd Captain would have been a Check / Training type who would need to be rated...

    Ask The Pilot

On the A380 I assume there are a bunch of tanks that are for trim / weight / balance purposes only and not useable for drawing fuel from to drive the engines and/or APU. What are the surge / vent tanks used for? Many years ago at the old BKK airport I was watching a 747-300 being refuelled...

    Ask The Pilot

You are still able to see who is crewing particular flights? While we were taxiing to queue for takeoff the Captain said the airport was closed due to thunderstorms. I understand all ground personnel clear the aprons and aircraft cannot be pushed back or taxied to the gate. Who makes the...

    Ask The Pilot

Was on Friday afternoons 10 May QF432 1230 service MEL-SYD. Our departure was delayed by about 30 minutes due to the late arrival of the inbound service from Brisbane. We pushed back at around 1300 and the airport was then closed due to a storm over the airport with all arrivals and departures...
