Experiences on Qantas staff travel

Out of curiosity, if you had oneworld saphire - for this example lets say on Cathay - and you had a staff ticket, would they let you into the qantas club flying say canberra to melbourne. A friend was talking about QEE? but the idea of getting bumped on multiple flights doesn't sound great, unless I've got an unlimited supply of tea and coffee and LLB.

No.

Qantas does not allow any* staff travel ticket into their lounges. You can be OWE with any airline even Qantas and they will still not allow you to enter if on a staff ticket.
Some airlines do though, don't know which ones.
*I should say though, there are very few exceptions to the above.

So the alternative would be priority pass, which is a catch 22 because they don't (domestically) exist in the same terminal (syd/mel/per)

Some airports actually have boiling water available for free.

Priority Pass or American Express lounges can be used on staff tickets were available. Same I would say for any other card that gives lounge access. But definitely not QF or Oneworld regardless of status or class of travel when on a staff ticket.

I was told the same by a current staff member who's a friend. We got around this by guesting him into the lounge as a non-traveller, which was allowed at the time in domestic (I was WP). He was a little unsure if this was okay, but also had never seen inside any QF lounge so was curious.

The rules currently permit staff to be guested.

Pretty similar situation like you I barely use it. Only time I’ve really found it useful is for intra SA trips where it costs pretty much nothing to ADL-PLO and ADL-WYA. I generally don’t bother otherwise and in fact nearly all our leisure flying is with VA domestically
Does anyone know what the Grouping means ? I fly tells me Im a “Group D” but I don’t know what that means

Thank you very much / my late father worked for Qantas for 35 years - I have 16 “migrated long service recognition sectors” & a migrated long service recognition trip. Would you know please if “Group D” is the lowest on the pile
Again Thank you very much - it does seem quite low, esp as an Older child of a former employee. I suspect the only realistic chance would be in the “least full” flights as all current staff travel folks would be ahead. I’m starting to get the picture (and got the staff travel guide from iFly). I shall be sure to “pay it forward” (your generosity in helping)

I have a family member who is a tenured Qantas employee who’s offered to add me to their staff travel.

I’ve heard that the way it works is that you’ll be on standby when you get to the airport so the flight isn’t guaranteed. The tip being never book the last flight of the day.

Just wondering peoples general staff travel experiences as a non-Qantas employee? I won’t be able to book anything myself and will have to rely on that person to check flight capacity etc. It will be cheaper though.

Is this worth doing or is the risk of being stuck at the airport and flights being booked out due to being on standby an issue?
This really isn’t the forum to be discussing staff travel. It is an employee privilege and you should be discussing it with your family member who has been kind enough to offer it to you.

No you are not allowed to enter the lounge in staff travel. At times a staff member may be rewarded and gave a pass. This can only be use at the Qantas Club. Never another airline lounge.

QF allow it at QF lounge where you’re guested by someone on a regular ticket and are entering as their guest.

Other oneworld airlines like Cathay have things like their own status members (only, not OWS/E) can access CX operated lounges prior to CX staff travel but nothing else.

They didn’t say they were travelling with anyone they said “if you have oneworld sapphire” on a staff ticket you don’t get in on Your status.
