To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?
 
Spot on. I've reached the conclusion that it's the P1 team and line that's the most valuable aspect of being P1. My experience is that they will try and accommodate any reasonable request (which in my case has been limited to asking for award seats (only one at a time) to be released. I've only had one knock back, and the circumstances were such that the knock back was objectively justified, so I couldn't really complain.

That's not to say that the extras shouldn't continue!!!

Do you ask for award seats via the P1 team or via the premium reservations team? Just wondering, as i’m going to have some requesting to do shortly
 
I think the only time I did it, I called P1 who put me through to somewhere else - but clearly with the notation "P1" and was a successful experience.....

Just this afternoon I got an F seat released on QF2 LHR-SYD. I emailed the SST and I assume they liaise with Res/Yield before confirming and then asked me to call Premium Res to authorise payment. Actually I asked for a range of three dates and they put all of them in the booking and said I could choose the one that suited the most :)

I ask via the normal reservations team, SST and reservations access the same systems and the response is either dealt with immediately "computer says yes" or sent to yield management.

SST is only a small group and rotate through an on call system. I only ever call them when there is something that needs their input to resolve.

There is also a thread some where on this site that details what fare buckets P1 and CL can get released when compared to normal WP. QF changed the fare buckets that can be released (for P1 and CL) which resulted in "computer say yes" more often.

If it's urgent, ring the SST. If it's not computer says yes, they print off the requests for yield management to consider at 3pm, so you need to get your request in by then. You then get a response the next day. They can request multiple routings and dates as well.

I've tried using reservations before, but the person I spoke to didn't know the process and didn't contact yield management, and the flight was only a few days away. When I escalated to the SST, they said I should ring them instead of reservations.

I do ring reservations for flight changes.

Wow. How far out is the flight? What day of the week?
 
4 months out on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (WTF - literally ;)). The best you can get on the website for the whole of August is the odd premium economy seat on a limited number of days.
Interesting, as a WP I got a couple of mid week F seats released a few months out.
There are lot of other factors and unknowns to consider, too...
 
Shows a benefit of P1 over WP let alone the rest. As I related couple of months ago I got a F seat released about 2.5 weeks prior to flight and it was pretty instant (via res, did not bother with the SST). I honestly could not complain at all with the experience.

Apologies for the delay in response.

I've always asked via the Premium reservations team. Most times it's been an immediate response ("computer says yes"). A couple of times it's taken 24 hours or less to come back "yes" after being sent to Yield management. Just once it came back "no" (end of school holidays returning from LHR).

Agreed. I've found this has been the best benefit of P1 and well worth what's been required to achieve P1.

LHR-SIN-SYD-MEL or LHR-SIN-MEL - it is currently showing as F3, and I am trying to get an A seat released. Insider information tells me that there at least 9 seats still available in the cabin though.

As I have explained in other parts of this forum before, there are some weird things going on with QF ex-LHR flights at the moment. Big swathes of dates on which all of the discounted fare buckets are zeroed out.
 
I guess it's a different kettle of fish to try and get s discounted revenue bucket like A opened vs an award seat.. interesting battle.

I wonder what their forecasts are saying that preclude the selling of these fares - you'd think they'd jump at a revnue booking (are we talking like an AONExx type fare perchance?) I mean even discount F yield would be welcomed I'm sure.

I do unerstand why it would be difficult to get this released. good luck!
