I was enjoying a nice meal in the J cabin when suddenly I noticed a coughroach crawling from the side panel of my seat and quickly hiding behind the TV monitor. The uninvited guest later came out of its hideout and crawled in the general direction of my ice cream:evil:!!! I managed to kill it and then called the flight attendant to get some help in disposing of the corpse and possibly notifying the next of kin.:p

The CSM was quite embarrassed and apologised profusely even though I'm pretty sure it wasn't her fault!:)

So my question is how common are coughroaches in aircraft? This was my first encounter in more than 500 flights, but I can't stop thinking that SWMBO would have reacted quite differently to the large insect charging toward her dessert!

Note: I decided not the name the airline here, but it's a carrier from a "developed country".

Not uncommon in Aus especially for QLD based aircraft. I have seen them written in the tech log of the aircraft.

Spied this critter on a QR flight, HAN-BKK, earlier this year.
Decided to live and let live.

Some passengers just won't stay in their assigned seats.

The aircraft are sprayed to remove bugs, but as you'll know from your home, getting every single one out would be impossible.

But what if it was an "Emotional support animal" that got loose?

They are everywhere and can't be stopped completely. I would always point one out to crew after I'd killed it but what else can be done in reality....not much. (although I haven't come across one on the BAM yet)

Im really impressed.... I dont know why (and it may be more of an FT thing...dare I say that!) ..but I half expected some "precious" and over the top reactions to the OPs experience.

Some folks just can't accept that there are bugs (and rodents!)on this planet of ours...and they really ARE pretty much everywhere.... (we just don't see them most of the time)

dare I suggest, because the OP didn't mention the airline, the 'precious' can't attack the specific airline ;):D.
