Return to the Japan Alps May 2024

Is Czech Airlines the Skyteam equivalent of Royal Jordanian to OneWorld? Excited to see another trip report from you in Japan! Hope it all works out.

    Hokkaido

HAHAHA all of this is so true. Speeds on Japanese highways in summer are so loosely enforced it's laughable. Though I've never seen someone slapped with the old Gaij sticker? I generally tell them I used to live and drive in Japan for work so maybe that's why I'm exempt... And yes love the use...

    Hokkaido

@RooFlyer Hokkaido is as much a mix of self serve and attended as anywhere else. All stations I have been to in Hokkaido have accepted CC payment (and those where you have to pre-select an amount generally have a 'full tank' option and english guidance).

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Both fantastic resorts! I haven't been to Kiroro since I lived in Japan in 2015/16 and 2016/17 so can't comment on its slopes now. I did find it a little frustrating as a snowboarder given the long traverses but it is certainly a gem with the amount of snow it receives (Plus free lift passes...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 19 (Part 2): As referenced above the lounge manager was fantastic and escorted us to the dining room but mentioned the lounge spa. I normally do a significant amount of research but had completely skipped over this being an option. I put my name down for a 15 minute neck and shouler massage...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 19 (Part 1): We had an 11am check out and a 6:30pm flight so a fair bit of the day to kill. We skipped breakfast to have a bit of a lie in and for the first time in a while we both felt more or less like ourselves. After check out we pondered heading to Central but decided to check out the...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 18: Our final full day of the trip started with breakfast at The Food Gallery which was included with the suite. It was a fairly standard South East Asian affair, which is to say fantastic for a breakfast buffet. Thoroughly enjoyable with attentive staff even if we did turn up 15 minutes...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

RE: Airport express - Didn't really want to mess around with a snowboard bag and suitcases on it. Have caught it before when staying at FS Hong Kong and loved it. But for the Langham, the thought of having to either change to a local MTR or an uber/taxi from Kowloon seemed a PITA. Also wasn't...

Seat selection - blocked seats on Qantas site vs Expert Flyer

Just some other data. EF isn't always correct. Back when the A380s were running SYD-HKG and first seats were sold as business EF would advise them as available to me as a WP. That's not the case as only P1 and CL could select them at booking and everyone else had to wait until T-80. I even...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

It seems like there are multiple different ones and none are convenient. While not in a positioon like yours it certainly wasn't fun with a suitcase and snowboard bag! Then when we got there it was even more of a mess with no traffic control and people double parking completely blocking the...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 16: Our last travel day before heading home involved another fairly early start in Singapore. I was starting to recover a little which was welcomed but unfortunately felt like we didn't really experience much of Singapore, a trend that continued to Hong Kong. We caught a Grab leaving the...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 15: I awoke feeling about 5% better than the previous day but still fairly unwell. I peeled myself out of bed and we wandered down to the level 3 adults only pool for a swim. Despite being in boardshorts and robes the lounge staff saw us and offered breakfast by the pool. The executive club...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 14: I forgot to add this image from the overnight flight but I guess it fits in here as it was technically after midnight. Following the aforementioned horrible nights 'rest' on the flight, certainly wouldn't call it sleep, we arrived into Singapore just after 6:30am. I was feeling...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 13: The start of my pretty rapid downhill slide happened overnight. Went to bed on day 12 feeling fine but fought through a night of sweats and muscle aches with not much sleep. Strangely woke up feeling alright and had a long last soak in the communal baths and sauna. We had a late check...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 12: The fiance was not getting any better and as such the planned trip to Kyoto was scrapped. Unfortunate as she was desperate to visit but it would've been a 12+hour adventure and we weren't feeling up to that. We enjoyed another great breakfast and I got a workout in before we pondered...

Qantas Call Centre Long Wait Times

Just some data from 2 calls lately (within the past fortnight). Call 1 answered within 20 seconds. Hobart agent linked separate bookings within 2 minutes. Call 2 answered within a minute. Overseas agent who allowed seat selection for my fiance next to me (Seats were blocked for her as I'm WP)...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 11: (Part 3) After arriving at Namba we decided to extend the day out into the evening. We emerged just to the south of Dotonbori vehicle bridge and made our way to the more famous footbridge. It was fairly busy but nothing we weren't alrerady used to after the day in Nara The fiance was...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

I don't mind it but the crowds get to me certainly. And no, only small children fitting through that gap! Which also had a line of about 30 families waiting...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

No we took the regular limited express to Nara, not the Hintotori. Though it is a stunning train! Unfortunately we didn't have much of a choice as booking with the bare minimum points put us into the most basic room. That being said I was a little dissapointed with only a 1 category upgrade...

    JP/SG/HK 2024 - Ups and downs!

Day 11: (Part 2) After making our way through the hordes of deer and people we approaced the gates for Todai-Ji, a 1300 year old Buddhist temple and probably the most visited attraction in Nara. The main building (which has been rebuilt a few times) was formerly the largest wooden building in...
