Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

I agree it's not something likely to be repeated due to its byzantine steps with minimal gain. Just something to test the system. Once again, I have no worries about being "ID'd" or otherwise by VA. There's nothing in the conditions of carriage to prohibit this and I think as a one off thing...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

I don't actually care. Good for them. I hope I waste hours of their time so they can do what exactly? Take away my frequent flyer points which I cashed out before they went bankrupt for gift cards? Or maybe take away my status which has been literally on repeat with no action required by me...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

At last the long awaited update to the saga. So I had a nice long flight booked with some family (4 pax inclusive myself) and low and behold 3 decided to cancel 12 hours before the flight due to gastro. This is all full fare J for them and Flex Y for me ( I always like to treat them). Within 1...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

Hidden city ticketing is so pervasive I remember when a teenager setup a whole search engine for it. Got sued by United Airlines I think? And then won and the site is still going to this day, now he actually makes money off the referral links.

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

I guess the same could be said about anyone who makes a restaurant booking at multiple restaurants. Maybe not, but platinum points upgrade waitlisted plus an upgrademe bid in the wings (whether one of the 4 free yearly or just cash) would certainly have pretty good odds. I think if you are...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

For this I was referring to the UpgradeMe bidding. If the flight is "full" and others don't book revenue seats -- 24 hours ahead of time the Upgrade sweep for bidding (which takes priority over points and staff tickets as it represents incremental revenue) would potentially upgrade a Y to a J...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

Interestingly on this topic, I discovered that there are people who actively make a living out of this in the hopes they get invol compensation by looking up the flight stats. For example in LAS where many flights are overbooked for thanksgiving/christmas. They book Y fully refundable fares to...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

I'm not sure how this is much different than booking 5 flights for each day of the week if you aren't sure when a project finishes etc. This is not uncommon and plenty of people are booking multiple seats across different airlines. In fact a quick google search reveals people actively...

Hence why I said long enough not to sit in economy.

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

If there is someone from VA stalking this thread and then searching through thousands (tens) of bookings who then subsequently noticed I have cancelled a seat — I figure more power to them. I read through this thread this morning and I realise it sort of sounds like a troll thread but there’s...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

Long enough not to sit in economy. Anyways I'm going to try this next week. I'll let you guys know when I'm out on bail. Will cancel at T -30 min. Just an east coast flight so nothing too long. For all those waxing poetic about breaking the law, there is nothing illegal about this. It's a...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

All jokes aside, I wish there was a decent third carrier in Australia. Last QF J flight -- no pillows "covid", no blankets "covid", cabin crew treated us like inmates. Slop on a tray table. May I have spirits? no -- "covid". I know the spirits are back now but the airline as a whole has...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

Jail time? Please spare me the melodrama. I’d like to see a single example of this. Wouldn’t classify this as fraud either. As I posited earlier I’m not even sure this would come to the attention of the airline.

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

I suppose. I don't think they care enough or check tbh. I'm not even talking about the same name, airlines run a housekeeping process nightly to cancel same name bookings and implausible bookings so this needs to be done in another pax name (partner etc). I don't think it's a "dog" move. It's...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

Now that I think about it, I have plenty of colleagues who book multiple flights on the same day because they aren’t sure which flight they will be on (ie the client is keeping them etc) so this can’t be far off.

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

Yeah to be honest it wouldn't surprise me. I probably wouldn't leave it until after the departure in any case. Would cancel a couple hours out at least. I think due to the covid "hold times" things have changed. Even on Qantas' hold music it says if you are calling to inform us you will not be...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

The space A travel thing does make a good point. Although in my experience it's mostly Y. As for the refund/cancellation bit I know the 24 hour thing is not correct, as I have cancelled from inside the lounge before after having checked in and have received a full refund aside from the credit...

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

As long as you aren't checked in it doesn't count as a noshow I've already checked with Virgin and Qantas.... At least for full-fare Y and J during these "covid" times. There is something called "Speculative bookings" which applies to travel agents but not end customers as far as I can see.

Booking extra full fare ticket to block seats / upgrades

I guess, but not sure how it would be associated with me. I guess if it was a repeated thing it might stir suspicions. With COVID I would imagine this happens pretty regularly. If I book a seat (or 3) next to me and it is cancelled an hour before takeoff -- or even better a no show, I would say...
