    Australian state border restrictions

You're right, and I'm sure 99 % of people would do the right thing. But there's bound to be some accidental or reckless spread. It's just a numbers thing really.

    Australian state border restrictions

Even with the new hard border after 5 Feb, the amount of returning residents will result in a further surge in cases. Even with RATs and home quarantine, people with bring it with them. And HQ, with a house full of relatives? It's getting out.

    Australian state border restrictions

If that first bullet point is read to the letter, then yes maybe, but I wonder how it would be implemented (can you really leave and return for any reason after 5 Feb?). Also it seems a bit unfair for WA residents who have relatives oversees and not in the eastern states. Should they not also...

    Why do you think that?

    Australian state border restrictions

I think some people might think that purposely accelerating the case numbers is now the clearest way out, in the absence of any other clear plan

She was just making it all up as she went along, exactly the same as McGowan did.

Have you considered low reported Covid-19 numbers may simply be result of low testing?

Nice analysis. Maybe in early March the rest of Aus will restrict entry from WA due to the greatest rate of covid increase in the country.

So you think most in Perth wanted the border to open on the 5th, as planned? Or at least were disappointed at the way it was cancelled with no clear path forward?

    Australian state border restrictions

If Mark McGowan the Premier of WA cannot stick to or provide a clear way out of this, I guess his population will find a way of doing it themselves. It is his failure as a leader.

Its not sarcasm. All I'm saying is, 'short and sharp' lockdowns are usually nothing like that. Lockdowns are a good idea when the population isn't vaccinated, sure. But, for a 90 % double vaccinated population? Even with a full lockdown, elimination of this variant is unrealistic. The impacts on...

Do you remember the short and sharp lockdown in Victoria? How did that work out?

Sticking with 5 Feb would have been consistent too

    Australian state border restrictions

WA has a 90 % double vaccination rate right now. One estimate I saw suggested 90 % boosted rate would be reached sometime in June. Are you suggesting a 90 % double vaxed population should lockdown for 5 months?

I'm actually not sure if you're been serious about locking down, or are you?

    Australian state border restrictions

Just announced, 24 local cases in WA. Just a matter of time now really. Its almost like he knew the writing was on the wall, but decided he'd close now so he wouldn't be to blame. Or am I being too cynical?

Maybe Omicron will make the decision for him, it seems like it is already there and spreading

Thanks all for your responses, we await the next announcement from our fearless leader! On a similar note, does anyone have any experience or tips in regard to entering WA under the international arrivals cap? I understand there is a cap (about 250 a week), and that you need to complete the...
