Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

2 weeks may be reasonable but not if it is just the beginning- remember everytime Melbourne went into lockdown it was touted as short term. This article is a bit worrying with the reference to 2-6 weeks to determine efficacy against omicron...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I'd like to sincerely thank the members of this thread. As an expat in the US who hasn't seen my family in 2 years, I have had multiple flights cancelled and been generally despondent at the situation and this forum has been a lifeline of hope from like-minded Australians, so thank you all!

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

You could have a new variant arise from the current virus floating around domestically. Your views only reinforce what many Americans I know currently think about a trip "downunder"- it was high on their bucket list, now they are horrified at how Australia has reacted to covid and are less...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

The Vic Government made noises many many weeks ago about how the F1 show travels in bubbles, so it's all good. As a Victorian currently living in the US, trying to visit family (whether I travel or they do, happy for either to be "allowed" to occur), it's just one more example to me of the...

She also correctly points out that the announcement reflects that Australia actually moved backwards

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

This is over a month old, but interesting nonetheless to consider how there could be a bubble Aus-Sing, if there are Sing-US, Sing-somewhere else, bubbles. https://www.businessinsider.com/singapore-airlines-resuming-flights-between-us-and-japan-this-summer-2021-5

Agreed but in Vic he seems to have a cult-like following ; of the officials actually elected to make decisions, and the populace)

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I do not see Australia opening in any meaningful way for its citizens in either direction for years https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/no-rush-to-reopen-international-borders-trade-minister-20210619-p582f3.html Trade Minister Dan Tehan says the federal government is negotiating...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Thank you for posting this, sadly I don't see anything there about a willingness to announce (or even prepare) a plan to open up- my view is based on the mentions of border rings and quarantine. I've tried to stay optimistic and hopeful of an easier way to travel but I really don't see Australia...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

I'm starting to feel this way too, it feels as though the country could be closed for years, this would be catastrophic economically but also on the national psyche Meanwhile: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/21/briefing/covid-19-us-pandemic-vaccinations.html

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Wondering how the Fed govt, having shifted quarantine to the states, will be in a position to enforce a national approach to quarantine. If the Feds, as is their remit, open borders, does it follow that the individual states open theirs without quarantine? Seems a ridiculous question to even...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

And this just happened in the US https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/13/health/cdc-mask-guidance-vaccinated/index.html "If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic," Dr. Rochelle Walensky said during a White House Covid-19 briefing...

At least NZ has a plan and a recognition of risk https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/covid-19-coronavirus-bloomfield-mulls-a-more-open-border-with-level-25-as-new-normal/KKGZATF3TPDEMAEHWTEQ3ZQN2I/

I've raised this point on vax rollout before; will be very interesting to see what happens with border closures if NZ can open its borders and Aus cannot. It has always seemed to me that NZ was the piper in the bubble arrangement

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Yes, however I wonder how happy people will be to come for movies/ sport once there are more quarantine free options elsewhere

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Will be interested to see how the F1 crews enjoy being in quarantine in November and the Tennis players in January when by then they most likely won't be required to quarantine elsewhere

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Could not agree more. I never bought into the whole American freedom ideology , but having moved here due to marriage (and better economic options re retirement planning for American husband in late career) with the plan of moving back, I too am appreciating the liberties I have here. I never...

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

yes, but I think a key difference is the risk tolerance- NY has already said that Broadway will open to full capacity in September and here in the US I'm seeing ads for concerts for all kinds of international acts, so there is a sense at least that the movement is forward, not a wait and see

Predictions of when international flights may resume/bans lifted

Some interesting financial modelling here : Counting the Cost of Australia's Delayed Vaccine Roll-out: Part Two - McKell Institute Of note is the estimated 81 day delay to opening borders (and the reference to Qantas, as though it holds some weight) "We assume that Australia must reach the rate...
