    SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Thank you Cruiser Elite, My wife tried to cancel our redemption booking through the online form, and got the standard response as mentioned above back. Even after responding to that email explaining further we still got the same response today. She has now sent off an email to the reservation...

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

You need to call Webjet. As your flight now falls within the 48 hour window, I would be ringing them again, ASAP. When you say no response, do you mean you are stuck on hold and they don't pick up? Or do you mean the number rings out, and you actually cannot get into a queue? Document all of...

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

I haven't dealt with Aunt Betty, so take this with a grain of salt. If you paid for this trip, and you have actively been trying to get in contact and request a refund, and have proof of this (emails, screenshots, etc) then I think you might be able to request a chargeback (assuming you paid for...

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

Those cheeky buggers! I'm still holding out hope on getting a cash refund from LE. I have reached out to both the LE hotels we had booked (one in Singapore and one in Thailand) and both have said in writing that they are willing to offer a full refund, and to organise it through LE. Otherwise...

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

Thats annoying! We reached out to one of the providers in Singapore, and they have agreed to a full refund, but we must organise this through LE. I haven't bothered ringing LE, but have sent emails.

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

Wow! Thats a huge list of cancelled flights. As you said, to be expected though. I've tried to change my upcoming MEL-DXD-MEL through Qantas manage booking, however, every time I select new dates (later this year) I get a generic error message, saying "flights can't be changed".

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

I should have waited. I cancelled a booking via booking.com phone agent for X2 Riverside resort in Chiang Mai. They stung me with a 50% cancellation fee - the booking was a non-refundable, so I was happy to get something back. edit: Oh forgot to mention, the booking.com phone agent was great...

Have you had to change/cancel travel due to COVID-19 (involuntarily or voluntarily)?

How have people found LuxuryEscapes regarding refunds? I have sent them an email asking for a refund, but (understandably) have not heard back yet.

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

FWIW, I have been on hold to Qantas for 3 and a half hours now. Understandable... obviously due to the current circumstances. Being a Bronze, I feel like every-time I get somewhat close to being answered, a platinum rings! hahah Obviously all call centres are under the pump massively. We do...

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

Fair points, and I by no means are a lawyer. Hence my question to this community - perhaps there is someone who may be (a lot) more qualified than me to answer this. My understanding is, that when you purchase something in good faith, that we are protected from unrealistic, or certain...

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

does the Australian consumer law notcome into play here??? Several overseas accommodation providers were already offering refunds due to the pandemic. Now that it has been raised by our govt. surely they are obligated to refund?

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

Im currently on hold to LE and hoping that they will now come to the table regarding cancellation. After all, they are selling to Australians, under the Australian Consumer Law, which is (in my understanding) bound by government advisory - if our government has now said 'consider your need to...

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

Interesting. The "and you not taking the appropriate action to avoid or minimise any potential claim under your policy," clause is what would get me worried. Now that this is a pandemic, and the Aus Govt has stated "reconsider your need to travel" due to the virus, how would the insurer agree...

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

Was this with LuxuryEscapes? I read in another thread that you were in contact with them and had some issues... We have a LE booking in Thailand and Singapore. Hoping to get both refunded now that the (smartraveller) level has been raised worldwide to 3. We also do have the Australian Consumer...

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

Agreed. However, I don't see any issue with calling the accomodation providers directly and seeing if they are willing to waive any fees/offer full refunds. Travel Insurance is a different ball game. From my understanding, a lot of providers will not allow/reject cancellation claims as the...

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

Does anyone know if qantas is waving the 6000 point per person fee for changing award flights? We are thinking of changing our plans and only doing Dubai for a week, but we are 12,000 points short for making the new booking with the change fee...

Smartraveller now raised ALL overseas travel alert

Contact the accomodation providers and airlines directly. I’ve had some ‘non refundable’ accommodation booked, and after reaching out majority are offering a full refund due to the circumstances we all face. Now that Smartraveller has raised the warning to ALL countries, I would expect most to...
